4 Ringwood News Johnsburg School Presents Outdoor Summer Concert i\ 11 The Johnsburg summer outdoor concert of the John­ sburg school district (of which the Ringwood area is now a part) was held last Sunday evening, July 30. It was a tremendous success and those from the Ringwood area participating were: Lori and Marty Fossum, Joan Gillespie, Chris Rich, Nancy Preston and Lee Walkington. A job well done kids and very enjoyable to listen to. LOCAL ACTRESS RETURNS TO DIRECTING Mrs. Walter B. Miller (Barb), well known locally for her delightful performances as Sarah Brown in "Guys and Dolls", "Josephine and The Step-sister" for McHenry Choral Club, also her moving performance as Yente in "Fiddler on the Roof", has returned to directing. Barb will be director for Townsquare Tenthouse Theatre at the McHenry County fair. Her most recent semi-pro work includes directing "Quiet Cries", assistant directing "Marriage-Go-Round" at McHenry Playhouse and assistant directing "Annie Get Your Gun" at Woodstock Opera House. The Townsquare Tenthouse Theatre will be presented at McHenry County Fair in Woodstock on Aug. 3 and 4 at 9 p.m., Aug. 5 and 6 at 2, 3, 8, 9 and 10 p.m. Do come and enjoy the local entertainment and rest your feet while doing so. See you all at the fair. BRIDAL SHOWER Debbie Steinmetz and Kit Pratt were ^o-hostesses at a recent bridal shower given in honor of Wendy Steinmetz who will become the Ibride of Randy Hicks on Saturday, Aug. 19. Games were played and aftet the guest-of-honor opened her gifts, punch and cake were served to complete^ an en­ joyable evening. HERE AND THERE Randy and Ro Josserand recently spent a busy week with their daughter and son-in-law, the Art Gums. Sandy and Art were in the process of moving from their present home and the folks were there to give a helping hand. The Gums' new address is R. No. 2, Petersburg, 111. Recent visitors at the Brennan-Hepburn home in­ cluded Mrs. Wanda Zevieis of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. John Blackman of Antioch, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Blackman and daughter, Dawn, also of An­ tioch, and Mr. and Mrs. Lentie of, McHenry. Mrs. Ruby Shepard has been enjoying the past two weeks with her sister and brother-in- law, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Foss, of M* Vernon, New York. The Fosufs are former residents erf McHenry so there were many friends to see and visit with. A few who dropped by the Shepard home included Mrs. John New hart and Mrs. Letha Glorch of Lakeland Park, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Simon of Chicago, Mrs. Charles An­ dersen and daughter, Tena, of Genoa City. The Wonder Lake Troop of Boy Scouts went camping last weekend in Bull Valley. Lee Walkington just happens to be a Boy Scout and he was with this group for a very enjoyable and fun weekend. Hope they weren't eaten up by the mosquitoes. Tom Walkington and Maya Stauber from Macomb were with the Paul Walkingtons for the weekend. The Walt Lows went camping with the Gerald Freunds of Johnsburg last weekend. The mosquitoes were very much in evidence. The Don Zamstill family found their way to the Freund and Low campsite for a Sunday afternoon picnic and fun. Patti Miller found her way to the Lake Geneva race track last Saturday night and brought home a trophy for herself in the Powder Puff race. She couldn't let her sister, Donna,,outdo her. Patti had a great following to cheer her on, as many friends were there to see her race. MYF SWIMMING PARTY August 10 will be the date of the parish youth group swimming party. The setting is Twin Lakes, Wis. The times are from 2 till 6:30 p.m. Ringwooders will meet at the church at 1 p.m. Mt. Hope youth assemble at their church at 1:15 p.m. and the youth from Spring Grove meet at the church at 1:30 p.m. All youth, including incoming Freshmen through last year's seniors, are invited. - if interested contact Teri Grupe at the church at 653- 6956 or Patti Christopher at 728- 0295. CHURCH NEWS Miss Cheryl Ripley of Sun- nyside is now helping out as organist at the Ringwood church on Sundays for the summer months. The official board of the Ringwood church will meet Thursday evening, Aug. 10, at 8 p.m. The youth of the parish will have a swimming party at Twin Lakes, Thursday afternoon, Aug. 10. BELATED BIRTHDAY Happy belated birthday to Harvey Seaborg. Harv's natal day is July 30. We'll try to be on time next year with this greeting to you, Harv. Barbara and Harvey Seaborg now reside in the home on the hill, beside the church. You know the one with the new fence. We like it, kids, keep up the good'work. Front (Rte. 31) Daily 8-5:30 -•Fri. 8-9 SUNDAY 10-2 Twice Told Tales Plane Ride In Plans For Last "Y" *Summer Trip On Aug. 7, combined youth from Algonquin, Cary, Crystal Lake, Fox River Grove, Huntley, Island Lake, Lake in the Hills, McHenry, Wonder Lake and Woodstock travel to the Gait Airport north of Greenwood and to McHenry to roller skate. They will be participants of the last 1972 Lake Region YMCA summer trip. The youth will be guided by adult and high school super­ visors. They will eat lunch at the McHenry park. The bus schedule for the trip indicates the following pick­ ups: Island Lake village hall, 10 a.m.; McHenry Junior high school, 10:15 a.m. and Wonder Lake, Rt. 120 and Thompson road, 9:15 a.m. Return times will be between 2:20 and 3 p.m., depending on conditions. The morning time is the earliest the bus will arrive. The bus will leave earlier than the scheduled time only if all registered youth are present. Pickup times listed are planned FORTY YEARSAGO (Taken from the files of Aug. 11, 1932) The McHenry Flour Mill has purchased a beautiful new Ford delivery truck from the Buss Page Motor Sales, McHenry. The local institution is now prepared to make deliveries of flour and feeds to all parts of the territory. A pretty wedding, one of the first scheduled for August, was solemnized Saturday evening when Miss Laura Karls of McHenry became the bride of Mr. Roy Johnsen of Chicago. The ceremony took place at St. Mary's church with Father Nix, pastor of the church, of­ ficiating. Barbara Rogers, grand­ daughter of Emil Lasch, received a cut lip in an automobile accident. Several stitches in the wound were necessary. Rita Freund and Anita Bacon % entertained a party of friends at the latter's home on Main street for Miss Gladys "Warrington of Royal Oaks, Mich. Mrs. Amelia Girard, 42 years old of the Lily Lake Cafe, suffered serious injuries when she was struck by an automobile as she was standing in front of her cafe at Lily Lake. Her arm was broken and her leg was seriously injured. Forty members of the dramatic club of, St. Mel's church, Chicago, spent the so that the youth will wait for the bus. Bus trippers are asked to wear a YMCA tee shirt for easy identification. Youth trippers should bring their lunch. There are also still openings for this exciting Monday summer bus trip. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Aug. 14, 1947) A total of 130 boys and girls left Chicago the last of the week to spend a ten day vacation at the Jolly Boys club at Pistakee Bay. This is the fifth in a series of seven groups from all parts of the city to enjoy such vacations as guests of the Italian Welfare Council. Firemen were called to the corner of Court and Pearl street to extinguish flames which threatened to entirely destroy the Boley place. The building had been partially torn down some time ago, had been abandoned for many years. ** For the convenience of his patrons, Cecil Ball owe of the McHenry Gab Co. announces that effective immediately, a space on the northeast corner of Elm and Green street has been designated as a cab stop. Funeral rites will be con­ ducted in Chicago for Mrs. Agnes Hill in Chicago, for forty- five years a resident of Emerald Park. Mrs'. Hill, who was in her ninetieth year, passed away Aug. 12. The infant son of Mr. and Mrs. A.L. Kosinski was christened David Anthony at a baptismal service Sunday in St. Patrick's church, Rev. Fr. Vanderpool officiating. A bridal shower was given in honor of Miss Anna Guzzardo at the Legion hall. She will become the bride of John Getner. A reunion of the cousins was held at the Robert Thompson home with dinner and supper and social afternoon enjoyed. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Aug. 16,1962) ' Young Argentinian, Carlo® Alberto Ribas Meneclier, McHenry's first foreign ex­ change student, is scheduled to arrive in McHenry to begin his first year. He will be spending the year with Mr. and Mrs. Charles S. Liebman. A new dentist will join the professional ranks in McHenry. He is Dr. Eugene E. Matesi with an office on Riverside drive. He will move his wife and children here from Joliet. Karl Stueben formerly a teacher at Edgebrook school has been named teaching principal at Valley View school to replace Barbara Hirt Zimmerman, who resigned. Mary Ann Rodenkirk and Cheryl Adams, who par­ ticipated in Youth Activity Day at the state fair and were members of the first place trophy winner unit, Nancy's Baton Twirlers, which received the governor's trophy. John Stilling, one of the oldest business men in length of service to the community, this past week observed his forty- sixth year in the garage business. Mrs. Lillian Holmes, a resident of Idyll Dell road for the past twenty-nine years, died at Memorial hospital, Woodstock, Aug. 14. Rebman of Elk Grove Village has been ap­ pointed corporate controller of the Echlin Manufacturing company, Joseph V. Scott, president, has announced. Based at the company's McHenry plant, Rebman will have responsibility for the total accounting function corporate- wide. The new controller holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce from DePaul university in Chicago and is a certified public accountant in the state of Illinois. He is a member of the American In­ stitute of Certified Public Accountants, the Illinois Society of Certified Public Accountants and the ExecuHve's club of Chicago.
