Ranging in age from 7 to 22, the week of outdoor sports and activities was the result of the efforts of a group of parents and friends who comprise the Foundation's Northern Illinois chapter. Last year, the group established the camp to provide the same kind of experience thousands of other young people take for granted, but which was unavailable to those born with Cystic Fibrosis~a hereditary condition con sidered to be the most serious childhood respiratory disease. "Even though most children with cystic fibrosis are active, energetic kids who can par ticipate in most sports, they usually cannot pass standard pre-camp physical exams," says David Shapiro, president of the Northern Illinois chapter and a father of a youngster born with cystic fibrosis. "Because of this," he con tinues, "we decided to establish our own camp. Additional information about the camp or about the Foun dation is available from the Northern Illinois chapter, National Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation; 63 East Adams street; Chicago, Qlinoois 60603 how to share, help and love others, celebrating the presence of Jesus in the world, sharing in His ^presence through Baptism and the Liturgy. Creative experiences in art, aancing, music and story telling were the media used to bring the lessons to the youngsters. The success of the program depended very much on the teachers and teacher aides. Unfortunately, some of them had to resign because of family needs and priorities. This fall much help is needed if ,the program is to continue ac cording to the high standards set. Volunteers among parents, teen-agers and interested adults are asked to contact St. Patrick's Religious Education office, 385-0025.
