Present Awards For Completion Of Swim Lessons The Red Cross swimming lessons which were sponsored by the Lakeland Park Property Owners Association Were completed last Friday, Aug. 4. More than fifty youngsters participated in the program this summer. The weather was quite cool during most of the two weeks. Even so, these true blue (and I do mean blue) kids were out bright and early each morning. There were classes for beginners, advanced begin­ ners, intermediates, swimmer and advanced swimmer. Those that passed the swimming tests received a card. Tim Serritella received the advanced swimmer card. Donna Lasko received the swimmer card. Steve Joly, Debra Krier and Renee Plucinski received the in­ termediate card. Those that received the advanced beginner card were Carol Lasko, Karl Lense and Lori Krier, also Jeff Nylander, Chris Nylander and Matthew Rogers received the beginner card. Although not everyone received the cards, all the children learned a lot. Other youngsters who participated in - the Red Cross swim program were% Jana Williams, Steve Carby, Terrance Waller, Raymond Roach, Glen Coar- son, Kelly Ann Pretzman, K i m b e r l y P r e t z m a n , Christopher Jones. Also Cathy Schooley, Mary Schooley, Danny Schooley, Maureen Serritella, Cecelia Serritella, Keith Belzer, Cindy Lou Pedersen, Mark Patterson, Matt Patterson, Michelle Patterson, Buddy Walsh, Johnny Lavin, Paul, Kimberly and Craig Cynowa, Robert Wilke, Arthur and Michele Kreutzer and Jill Wahnrade. Also Linda Humphreys, Donald Humphreys, Julia Hodges, David and Danny Brunow, Michael and Darrin Radcliffe, Susan Marshall and James Thorson. The swim program was under the direction of Miss Cathy Bolger. Three young people from Lakeland Park were the assistant instructors. They are Judy Johnson, Tim Serritella and Donna Lasko. Patricia Schooley, Patricia Lasko and Kathleen Lavin were the mothers who volunteered to supervise at the West Beach during the lessons. A special word of thanks goes to Mrs. Lasko who was in charge of organizing the lessons, registration and forming the classes. TO IOWA AND BACK Cedar Rapids was the destination when Bev Hansen, Louise Altergott and kids and Roberta Humphreys and kids headed westward last week. They visited Lois Choate, who recently moved to Cedar Rapids from Lakeland Park. On the way back they visited Louise's cousin in Delaware, Iowa. Also on the agenda was a LADIES GUILD LUNCHEON Next Tuesday, August is, is the date for the luncheon, fashion show and card party which is sponsored by the St. Patrick's Ladies Guild. Serving will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in St. Patrick's church hall, 3500 W. Washington street. There will be good food, table prizes, and a good time for everyone. EXHIBIT AT COUNTY FAIR Donna Lasko entered two projects in the 4-H Club exhibit at the McHenry County Fair. Donna was very pleased to learn that she received an A rating on her sewing project and a C rating on her cooking project. Carol Lasko entered her cooking project for the judging. She received a B rating. Both Carol and Donna belong to the Bull Valley Seekers 4-H Club. PACK 351 SOFT BALL GAME Cub Scout Pack 351 will play a Softball game Thursday, Aug. 17 at 6:30 p.m. The game will be played at the Lakeland Parte Community House field; 1717 N. Sunset in Lakeland Park. If the game is rained out, it will be played Friday, Aug. 18. CANDLE OCCASIONS Nine is the lucky number for Jacqueline Richardson as she celebrates her birthday on Aug. 11. Also celebrating on the eleventh are Jim Hansen, Karen Brook, LilAnne Anthony and Joan Becker. Chris Rogers and Randy Fergen will add another candle on Aug. 12. Aug. 13 is a special day for Denise Bucaro, Jim Oeffling and George Hendle. Jerry Rogers and Terri Mai share Aug. 14 as their camjle occasions. Aug. 15 is a red letter day for Margie Becker and Charolette Gehrke. Esther Cygan celebrates on Aug. 16. Jill Wohnrade, Mary Lillian Mueller and Margo Schaedel have a circle around Aug. 17. Twice Told Tales FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Aug. ij}, 1932) Mrs.| Sarah Sherburne, pioneer of McHenry, celebrated her one hundredth birthday anniversary at her home with her daughter, Mrs. Clayton Harrison, near Ringwood Aug. 17. Mrs. Sherburne has lived with her daughter only four years and previous to that time she lived in McHenry, doing her own work and taking care of her garden and flowers even during her advanced years. A picnic for Holstein breeders of Illinois will be held Aujh-24 at Hickory Creek farm 'at McHenry. Hickory Creek farms are owned by Frank Howard, president of the Howard Foundry Co. of Chicago and the home of the famous "Twenty Grand" bull purchased for $19,500 at the recent Buth Dispersal sale. Announcement has been made by Mr. and Mrs. Orville M. Kerns of Woodstock of the engagement of their daughter, Marilyn Jeanne, to John L. (Jack) Phalin of McHenry. In a simple nuptial service performed in the parsonage of the Lutheran church in Union Grove, Wis., Aug. 16, Mrs. Agnes Lewis was married to Mr. Fred Bienapfl. Winters of McHenry Shores received a broken arm and severe facial injuries sustained Saturday noon when his plane crashed as he attempted to land his air­ plane east of Fox River Grove. A call informing his wife ttiat he intended to end his life preceded the fatal shooting by his own hand of Frank Blaskis, 53, of North Riverside, McHenry. The Employers Group of Insurance companies an­ nounced this week the recent comprehensive course of in­ surance study by Jack Walsh which was conducted at the home office in Boston, Mass. He has returned to join the insurance firm of his father. Peter H. Freund, 74, a lifelong resident of this area, died Saturday, Aug. 18, at his home on Riverside drive following an illness of a few months. The Paul Mandli family are moving this week to West Allis, Wis., where he will begin his teaching and coaching duties early in September. Name Jourdan To District Council SUA ALJOURDAN Thomas S. Kleppe ad­ ministrator of the U.S. Small Business administration has announced the appointment of Al Jourdan of McHenry to its Chicago District Advisory council. Jourdan will serve a two-year term without pay. The SBA helps some eight million small businesses of this country. Kleppe stated that the council is made up of "outstanding and dedicated citizens". Jourdan serves currently as a special assistant to Governor Ogilvie and chairman of the McHenry County Republican Central committee. P*- • FLY FOR HANDICAPPED - Precision flying will be a feature at the Campbell airport on Aug. 20, at the airshow being held for the benefit of the Countryside Center for the Handicapped. The center operates a day school and a sheltered workshop for the severely handicapped children and adults of the northwest suburbs of Chicago. The show will include antique and experimental displays, exhibit booths and refreshments, starting at 10:30 a.m. The professional aerobatic show will commence at 1:30. Advance sale price tickets are available at the center and the airport. Plenty of free parking is available.
