Maybe you like smiling babies? Sorry to disappoint you, but I've got a lot on my mind. There's something wrong in America . . . and I'm the chap who is getting hurt! Our Constitution says that no one can be denied the right to worship God. I'm an American! According to the Constitution I have the right to learn about God, to hear the Bible Stories, to be taught the Christian Way of Life. But here's the hitch. While the Government can't deny me the right to attend church school and church--MY PAR ENTS CAN. They can rob me of my most sacred right just by neglecting my spiritual needs. Did you know that about half the children in America are growing up without religious training? And yet there's a church in every village! Yes sir, I'm serious! Instead of talking about it, we ought to do something! And wjs ought to start Sunday! The members and friends of the Alliance Bible church have spent many hours in spiritual preparation for the services. Pastor Gerald "Robertson has expressed deep appreciation to those who have helped. Also participating in the services will be a number of talented musicians, including "The Ruhamah," modern gospel singing group sponsored by the church, and the musical team of Jim Franklin and Darryl Waterman. Several numbers will be presented on the organ and piano, as well as vocal solos and duets. "We are very pleased to have such a fine group of musicians and such an outstanding speaker as Rev. GENE CLYMER The Rev. Gene Clymer, evangelist from New Castle, Ind., will be the guest speaker at the Alliance Bible church, 3813 W. John street in McHenry. These special evangelistic services will begin Sunday, Aug. 20», and continue through Friday, Aug. 25. Services will be at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Sunday, and 7:30 p.m. during the week. A dynamic speaker, Rev. Clymer has been a member of^p prayer experiences must go beyond these few situations. "Pray the Billy Springfield without ceasing". (Thessalonians 5:17) "In everything give Virgje L. Chappell, Pastor First Baptist Church, McHenry WHEN TO PRAY Nearly everyone has, at some time or another, experienced what they call "answered prayer". These experiences are constant reminders to the love of God and to His desire to minister in our personal lives. But for the "Believer" the Bible teaches that his Evangelistic team, and is well known in the Christian and Missionary Alliance as an outstanding evangelist. Due to physical problems, the Rev. Clymer has hadvto leave his DIAl-A-DEV PHONE Hear God's Word Wherever You Are. SPONSORED BY: GUETTLER'S SERVICE STATION thanks..." (I Thess. 5:18a) "In everything by prayer and sup plication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God." (Philippians 4:6) These are but a few of the many explicit statements concerning Christian's prayers. (Luke 2:37; Acts 6:4; Acts 10:2,9; Romans 1:9; Romans 12:12; etc.) Yet, for most of us, if we were to recall when we had last enjoyed answered prayer, that time would probably be more than a year ago and perhaps a very long time ago. Why do we not pray? , Many of us do not follow the Scriptural admonition concerning prayer because we are defeated in our prayer lives. Though we would not admit it, we do not believe God will hear us in our per sonal petition. We prayed at one time for a very big and important situation. Nothing happened! We therefore, subconsciously, have now become defeated and unbelieving in prayer. This is the very reason the Bible says, "Pray without ceasing!" To pray without ceasing, we must pray also about the little things. Jesus taught us to pray concerning the receiving of a piece of bread or a piece of fish. (Matthew 7:9,10) We need the assurance of the answer to these "little" prayers before we can really trust God to answer the "big ones." If we never pray concerning the "little" request, then when the vital situation comes, we have no faith to offer God as we pray to "move mountains". (Matthew 17:20) To be effective, prayer must, of necessity, usually carry its specific request. If there is no request, we are never sure God has heard. The Bible teaches us to "ask". (Matthew 21:22; Mark 11:24; Luke 11:13; etc.) Practice asking for the little things - even for the necessities of life - and then thank Him. The next traumatic situation which comes your way, you will be able to pray with confidence. "Pray without ceasing", I Thessalonians 5:17. PACK 459 PICNIC AND OLYMPICS Cub Scout Pack 459 gathered at the East beach Sunday Aug. 13 for a family picnic and the 'Cub Scout Olympic games. The scouts participated in many different games in cluding the high jump, broad jump, discus throw, 25 yard dash and javelin throw. Everyone enjoyed the af ternoon very much. CHILDREN TO PRACTICE BIKESAFETY It has been brought to my attention that motorists in our subdivision have had problems because of bicycle riders. Some of the kids are riding four abreast down the roads so that cars cannot pass without en dangering the riders. Also the bike riders do not obey the traffic laws. The kids are reminded that they are supposed to stop at stop signs and give signals as to which way they are turning. Bicycles are subject to the same safety rules as cars. So, some on kids let's play it safe. We want all of you to reach a ripe old age of 90. CAKES AND CANDLES A very happy first birthday wish goes to Jay Gacek who celebrated his birthday on Aug. 11." Michael Granath will add another candle on Aug. 18. Aug. 19 is a red letter day for Stevie Bockman and David Dawson. John (Butch) Arient, Anne Arthur and Shannon Michael Sweet share Aug. 20 as that very important day. Shannon will be one year old. Edward Nicolai's birthday is Aug. 21. Dennis Storlie has a circle around Aug. 23. Birthday greetings go to David Wohnrade, Holly Arient, Meg Humann and Michael DiBlasi who celebrate on Aug. 24. Color it nine for Michael.
