AND MRS. RICHARD D. PLATT NEWLYWEDS - St. John the Baptist Catholic church, Johnsburg, was the setting for a lovely summer wedging Saturday, July 22, when Linda F. Colomer and Richard D. Piatt exchanged nuptial vows. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Frances Colomer of 1317 W. Sunnyside drive, McHenry, and the late George M. Colomer. Her husband is the son of Richard R. Piatt of 2504 N. Nordica, Chicago, and the late Nancy Piatt. Mr. and Mrs. Piatt are making their home at 809 Southgate, McHenry. LANGDON STUDIO PHOTO Even though the weather was inclement, 143 members and guests were in attendance at the meeting of the McHenry Senior Citizens club Monday evening, Aug. 14. During the committee reports, George Binder, co- Program chairman, reported that the two busses for the Milwaukee trip on Wednesday, Aug. 30, are filled. He also reminded members that the bus will leave the McHenry State bank parking lot at 8:30 a.m., and they are to bring a sandwich. A stop will be made on the return trip for food. Binder also reported on the bus trip to Woodfield Wed­ nesday/Sept. 20. Reservations for this trip to be made im­ mediately. There was a unanimous vote for a donation of $100 to be given the McHenry Rescue squad in memory of the club's deceased president Kenneth Fairchild. Mrs. Helen Strandquist, Social chairman, reported there will be a smorgasbord dinner Monday,.Sept. 25, at 6:30 p.m., at the East campus cafeteria. Reservations for tins fall smorgasbord dinner must be made promptly, as seating capacity is limited. Tickets will be issued on a first come - first served basis: MR. AND MRS. John Ph 385-1072 Frank Giel enthusiastically reported on the bowling, ad­ vising that the teams bowl three times a week, namely, Tuesday mornings at 10 a.m., Tuesday afternoons at 1 p.m., and Friday afternoons at 1 p.m. The summer session will end around the last of August. Giel also reminded the bowlers about the fish fry on Aug. 25 at noon at the Pistakee Country club. After the fish fry there will be a picnip - a casual good- time event for the bowlers. They are Mrs. Charles (Shirley) Mansfield of Wonder Lake, Mrs. Erven (Marge) Erber of Woodstock, Mrs. Marvin (Nancy) Cairns of Woodstock, Mrs. Enn (Margaret) Rehaste of Marengo, Mrs. Arthur (Beverly) Kreutzer of McHenry, Mrs. Alvin (Irene) Schultz of Greenwood, Wis., Mrs. Calvin (Dorothy) Mat- thies of San Rafael, Calif., Mrs. William (Rita) Rudzena of Fox Lake, Mrs. Ronald (Jeanne) Kreutzer of Elkhorn, Wis., Thomas Griswold of Crystal Lake, Charles Griswold of Woodstock, Robert Griswold of Fox River Grove and John Griswold of Canada. The Griswolds have thirty- eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Wilbur and Florence Griswold were married Aug. 19, 1922, in Oak Park. They have lived in the McHenry county area for the past forty- five years, since 1927. Mr. Griswold is a business representative for the Elgin Federation of Musicians. His wife is employed at Hornsby's in McHenry. The couple will be reaf­ firming their marriage vows at 11:30 Sunday, Aug. 20, at the Chain O'Lakes Evangelical Covenant church in Pistakee Highlands. The family invites all friends, neighbors and relatives to attend the ob­ servance of the Griswolds' golden wedding. -y for this fish fry now.! Mrs. Robert Wilke, Program chairman, stressed the up­ coming Flower and Garden show Monday, Aug. 28, reminding the members to plan on bringing their displays a little early to get them set up and ready for exhibiting and judging. The shows have been very • popular with club members and many very o u t s t a n d i n g f l o r a l arrangements, colorful flowers and plants, and super vegetables have won awards. The committee is hoping this year's show will be the very best and biggest to date. Following the business meeting, Mrs. Wilke announced the program for the evening which consisted of two very interesting films, "Wings To Hawaii" and "Grand Tour", followed by fine refreshments. Couple Will Year In Fiji ̂ Islands Mr. and Mrs. Alford S. Johnston have sold their lovely home at 3805 W. Grove avenue, McHenry, to Dr. and Mrs. Jack Hansen of McHenry. The Johnstons will be leaving Sept. 1 to live abroad for one year in the South Pacific Fiji Islands. Last August, Mr. and Mrs. Johnston spent a month in Australia and stopped in Fiji- enroute home aboard a 747 plane. They enjoyed the visit so very much that they have since decided to return The Fiji Islands are seven and a half hours flying time the other side of Hawaii and only three hours from Australia. It is a resort playground for the Australians, Chinese and residents of India. As of 1970, the Fiji Islands have had their independence from Great Britain, but still function in the British manner, such as Changing of the Guard, etc. Mr. and Mrs. Johnston will be driving to Los Angeles, stop­ ping enroute at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, St. Louis, Mo., and Scottsdale, Ariz. After leaving on a jet from Los Angeles, they will be stopping at Honolulu for a few days and then on to Nadi, Fiji Islands, for at least one year. Garden Club To Hold Summer Luncheon Meet The McHenry Garden club will hold its summer luncheon meeting Thursday, Aug. 24, at noon at Millie's Pancake House, Delavan, Wis. Following the luncheon, the group will visit craft shops featuring craft materials and Christmas suggestions. Morgan, in Tulsa, Okla. Mrs Posthuma is now retired. She was one of the first checkers when the A&P store opened on Elm street and was the last to leave when the store was closed.
