For a small village such as this with a population of about three hundred, this was a large enrollment, in fact the largest the school had ever had. In 1965 this group of "young at heart" folks remembered that they had started school together fifty years ago. This was an occasion to celebrate they decided and a dinner party was planned. One of them had a school picture and from this they found out names and that most of them were living in the Chain-o-Lakes area. Only one had passed away. Getting addresses and starting to contact these first graders began and by Sep­ tember of 1965 responses came from a great majority of these "kids". Word was received from those who had moved away. Two in California could not attend but Monticello, 111., Cable, Wis., and Chicago area were heard from and they were there at the first dinner of their golden anniversary held in Lake Zurich. This has become an annual event and on Aug. 19, 1972, the group had a fiesta dinner at Sabatini's overlooking Long Lake. These "first graders" have a great time together reminiscing, singing and always planning to get together again next year..."The Good Lord Willing". Those school kids who attended this year and who brought their spouses or guests were Ray Clark, Waukegan; Clarence Freund, Fox Lake; Eva Freund, Spring Grove; Margaret Haneline, Mon­ ticello; Leo Lay, Cable, Wis.; Nora Klaus, Fox Lake; Martin May, Fox Lake; Arthur Miller, McHenry; Arthur and Jen Rauen, Skokie; Pauline Krause, Wheeling; and from the class of 1919, who joined the group in 1969 were Evelyn Freund, Antioch; Veronica Klein, Fox Lake. CHRISTIAN MOTHERS INSTALLATION The Christian Mothers Society of St. Peter's will hold its installation of officers <tn- Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. at the LaSalette Center, Twin Lakes, Wis. SUCCESSFUL EVENT The horse fair was a huge success. Hundreds of people came from miles around and greatly enjoyed the events presented by the young people, many of whom showed great talent. The barbecued roast beef dinner was served to many and all proclaimed it delicious. The committee wishes to thank all who helped in any way to make this fair such a huge success. CLUBS Fifty-two ladies attended the lawn party held at the home of Pauline Horak, Chillem drive, on Aug. 16. The party was sponsored by the Lotus Country Woman's Club. Chicken salad, rolls and cheese cake were served at the luncheon and cards were played in the af­ ternoon, the winner at each table received a prize. Mrs. Nora Klaus entertained members of her club at her home in Fox Lake on Thursday night. A dessert lunch, lemon meringue pie "from scratch" as only Nora can make it was served. Cards were played and prize winners were Mayme Hoffman, Margaret Weber and Marie Lewis. "The club will meet next at the home of Evelyn Freund in Antioch. CHANGE RESIDENCE Mr. and Mrs. Frank Heinemann have sold their home on Rt. 173 and purchased the home of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Blink on Main street. BIRTHDAY PARTY A birthday party for Harvey Petska and Waudenia was held in the Petska home on Aug. 20. Many relatives and friends attended. Mrs. Alfred Petska, Cheri and Beverly returned from Hamburg, Germany, on Thursday. During the five weeks they visited France, Germany, Austria and Swit­ zerland. They are from Tomah, Wis. Alfred came down from Tomah to pick up his family. DEATH We were sorry to hear of the death of Mrs. Mary Borgwall who passed away on Aug. 7. She was a resident for sixteen years. Surviving are her husband, George, a son, Raymond Frost, Chicago, a daughter, Dorothy Harris, of Tucson, Ariz., two grand­ children, six . great­ grandchildren, two great, great grandchildren and a brother in Cincinnati. ~ Warn Residents Beware Of Magazine Peddlers Illinois Attorney General William Scott warned Illinois residents to Deware of phony door-to-door magazine sub­ scription peddlers. Attorney General Scott said in recent weeks his office has received about ninety com­ plaints from Cook county residents alone that they were defrauded by young door-to- door salesmen who claimed they were working their way through college, raising money for charitable purposes, or similar sympathy gimmicks. The Attorney General said that victims of the fraudulent magazine subscription racket have complained that they have not received the magazines paid for; that solicitors misrepresent the total cost of the subscription- consumers think they have paid in full and later receive ad­ ditional bills; and that the prices charged for magazines are in excess of the regular subscription prices. Scott declared that presently the northern part of the state - especially suburban Cook and Lake counties - is the im­ mediate target of an intensive sales program organized by an out-of-state group now being investigated by the Attorney General's office. Scott said subpoenas are being served on suspected promoters of the magazine subscription racket. He said his office has learned that more than thirty young people from out of state, trained in the sob story technique, were brought into Illinois to work in the present magazine subscription selling campaign. Attorney General Scott recommended that before entering into contracts for magazine subscriptions, buyers should callthe Attorney General's office or the Better Business Bureaus of their communities to check out the reliability of the organization soliciting subscriptions. the validity of the Ordinance as a whole, or any part thereof other than the part so declared to be invalid.
