Hunters are reminded they must wear protective coloration garments while hunting during the two three- day deer seasons in Illinois. "This applies to upland game hunters as well as deer hun ters," said Jim Lockart, supervisor of the Division of Wildlife Resources, Illinois Department of Conservation." In counties open to deer hunting all hunters, regardless of whether they are hunting deer or some other game, must wear a cap and a vest or upper outer garment of a solid and vivid red, yellow or orange coloring." This year's si^-day shotgun season for deer hunting will be Nov. 17,18 and 19 and Dec. 8, 9 and 10. 87 of Illinois' 102 counties are open. Lockart pointed out that due to the anticipated heavy con centration of deer hunters, Carroll, Hardin, Jo Daviess and Pope counties will be closed to upland game hunting during theshotgun deer hunting fson. Heavy usage is also an ticipated by the Department in the Shelbyville Wildlife Management areas to shotgun hunting for deer the first time this fall, we are urging hunters to be especially careful and safety minded," said Lyle Adams, assistant supervisor of Wildlife Resources. "Many hunters will be anxious to take advantage of the opening of Moultrie County and our new area, and we expect heavy usage. For this reason the Department of Conservation is taking this opportunity to advise the hunting public of expected heavy hunting pressure and urges all hunters to recognize the potential hazard and apply safety precautions as required." eifccrqc . f( VAMS k ||J 1321 /! ^ 171 unouncmq THE GRAND OPENING STEVEN'S SNOWMOBILE SALES "NEW SERVICE FACILITIES" SAT, SUN SEPT. 23. 24 10:00 A.M. - 10:00 P.M. The Warriors received the opening kickoff and Lundelius returned it to the 36 yd. line. Two plays later Schaumburg recovered a fumble. Jones, the Saxson fullback, on three suc cessive line plunges put the ball on the McHenry 8. Hill, the Saxon quarterback, then passed for the first of his five touchdowns to Bill Young. The extra point was good and Schaumburg led 8 to 0. The Saxons wasted no time in scoring again. After the kickoff, they held the Warriors. On the first play Schaumburg fumbled and the Warriors recovered on the 25. Randy Mauch then scooted 25 yds., for the touchdown. The try for point failed and the Warriors still trailed 20 to 14. Again after the kickoff the Warriors recovered a Saxon fumble. Ludwig took a pitchout and raced 21 yds., to paydirt. The try for point again failed and the Warriors were back in the ball game tied 20 to 20. Larry Isaacs (soccer style kicker from So. Africa) then boomed a kickoff out of the end zone. It has been some time since this has been done by a McHenry kicker. The Warriors held and Schaumburg punted to the 47. Ludwig carried to the 39. Then Mauch hit Bob Habich and with a bit of fancy foot work and open field running, Bob ran it in for the score. Isaacs kick was good and the Warriors led 27 to 20. This amazing turn of events took only six minutes. Again McHenry recovered another fumble by the Saxons but could not get a drive going and were forced to punt. In the fourth quarter with the wind now becoming a big factor (25 m.p.h.) at game time, Mauch's punt traveled 11 yds. The Warriors dug in and held. Starting a drive up field, the Warriors fumbled again and the Saxons took over. Hill again passing to his favorite target, Cummings, finally, hit one for a touchdown. The end play failed and the Warriors led With l: 16 showing on the clock. Time became a big factor now as the Warriors received. A pass from Hill to Patarsky was good, and that was the old ball game. The Warriors showed a lot of courage. Down 20 to 0 early in the game this young, inex perienced team did not give up. To their credit they came back. To you fans who missed the game, the Warrior team is an explosive team, they can score from anywhere on the field. As soon as they sharpen up their pass defense and I'm sure they will be working on it this week, they will be a most exciting team to watch. Don't sell this team short because of the loss Saturday. Their spirit and morale are high. Keep up the fight, Warriors, the fans are with you all the way. The McHenry Sophomores won 8 to 0. Scoring: McHenry - 0 8 19 0 27 Schaumburg 20 8 0 12 32 T.D. We are hopeful that his list of players will be in before press time. Whoops! Here we are: "We want everyone who ever played baseball in McHenry to know that they are invited: It has been impossible to get in touch with all those ex-players. So if you read this article and you are an ex-McHenry ball player, consider yourself in vited. Those that we have talked to who have indicated they Will attend are: Jim Larkin, Paul Judson, Harry Stilling, Joe Wagner, Harry Dowell, Dick Freund, Arnie Anderson, Paul Freund, Ai Phannenstill, the Knox brothers, the Bolger brothers, the Molidor brothers, Joe Stanek, Dean McCracken and quite possibly Hugh Murphy and Dick Conway. I will handle the exhibition part of the program and John Knox has agreed to manage the game that will be played by some of the more agile retirees. One disappointing note: Bob Adams will not be able to be there. As I told you last week, he used to have a strong arm but was rather skinny. Now that he has filled out a bit we were expecting great things from him. It's sort of like the Bears losing Gale Sayers." Bill Bolger Watching baseball games tells us that pitchers know which batters will take the first pitch. They fire that first one right down the middle and get ahead of the batter. And the batter won't get another pitch that good no matter how long he waits. It isn't too early to winterize the car, but the first cold, stormy day will find the garages and gas stations crowded. (We've been there, too). Watched Billy Williams make that great catch against the vines co end the Cubs-Mets game Sunday and decided maybe he is good enough to make our team. The football season has arrived. It crowded baseball right off the front page of the sports section Sunday. That you should see! Bill Bolger will be in charge Gale Sayers? How about Abe Gibron? John Knox is supposed to give us la list of not-so-old Old Timers./ ^ The Warriors' first home game will be played Friday night against North Chicago. North Chicago beat Antioch 7-0 last Friday night in a non- conference game. McHenry lost to Schaumburg 32-27. What encourages us is the fact that the Warriors showed they can score points and score them by land and in the air. Lift that trap door to the press coop and give us a strong arm. ' More than 10,000 McHenry county bowlers have contributed to a $464.23 contribution to Pioneer Center, the organization which helps provide work for handicapped people from throughout the county. (DON PEASLEY PHOTO) Harriers Lose To Woodstock And Fremd by Dick Rabbitt Coach Bill Hutchinson's Warriors journeyed to Woodstock last Thursday and ran into a buzz-saw. Fremd, the state's fourth ranked cross country team, shut out the Warrior's with a perfect score 15 to 50. The Sophomores fared better by splitting defeating Wood stock 23 to 47, but being shut out by Fremd 15 to 50.
