Driver Loses Suitcase From Top Of Auto A blue chest of drawers and a brown Samsonite suitcase were lost from an auto driven by Mary Weber of 3708 W. Maple avenye, McHenry, as she traveled along Crystal Lake blacktop Monday afternoon. The items were blown off the roof of her auto somewhere south of Bull Valley road as she was enroute to college. It is believed a passing motorist or a nearby resident may have picked up the articles and could not trace the owner due to lack of identification on the items. THIS WORLD! OF OURS Relieve it or not, in thin, the world's most technologically ad vanced nation, unsanitary open dumping is still the most widely used method of waste disposal. The majority of U.S. communities still dispose of their refuse in pretty much the same way people have been doing for centuries. There are about 12,000 land dis posal sites in this country today. Despite recent efforts to improve them. most are crude, open dumps that breed vermin and in sects, cause fires and odors, threaten disease, pollute ground icater and blight the land. ©•.-a- Areyou ahazaid to your wealth? LITTLE FAITH "Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word ofiGod-"' J&J confidence one has in a living and concerned God is not the result 01 a mere mental attitude. We may, during a parUcular traumatic situation, seek a source of emotional or physical b^P^hJchm normal life situations there is no felt need. We may identify that source as being God. But in such a situation there is no assurance that real help is available. ^ . One would expect that the persons who knew Jesus, Chrtot per sonally, would have been the stlohgest in faith. Matthew, in rug gospel, (Matthew 14:22ff) tells of Jesus walking on the waters of the beautiful sea of Galilee. The apostles had left Jesus behind and were having trouble reaching their destination because of contrary winds and a rough sea. Jesus came to them late in theimgnt, walking on the water. Of course, the apostles were afraid but Jesus spoke a word of encouragement, "Be of good cheer; It is I, be not afraid.' " (Verse 27) .. .. . Peter , always eager to do as Jesus did, said, Lord, 11 liDe Thou, bid me come unto Thee on the water." Jesus aiKwered, "Come." This was the setting for a great miracle in the life of tne Apostle Peter. He stepped down out of the boat onto the water, and began making his way to Jesus. But Peter made only a few steps before, as he began to sink, he cried out to Jesus, "Lord, save me!" (v. 30) There is no reason to criticize Peter in this dramatic experience. There are instead, many reasons for which he should be praised. However, Jesus offered him a mild rebuke as He reached out His hand to him and said, "O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?" Although Peter was exposed every day to personal ex periences with Jesus Christ, he possessed only "little faith." But we see that after the resurrection and appearance to Peter of the risen Christ and after the great demonstration of Pentecost (Acts 2) that Peter became a spiritual giant. He became a man of complete faith. What brought about this great transformation?^ "Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God." Peter, though he saw and experienced the often miraculous work of Jesus Christ, still did not know and understand the plan of God for mankind or for Peter himself. Though he knew and could ac cept day by day experiences, it was not until after the day of Pentecost that Peter came to realize the complete and total plan of God. We can and must have day by day experiences which let us know of God's love for us. We must see our prayers answered before we can experience true faith. But the only means of acquiring a mature faith is through a regular and determined study of God's Word. We must not only know Him, but we must know His (dan. We must become a part of His plan and "His-story." "So then, faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God " (Romar- 10:17). [ THINK ABOUT IT! By BOBJUSTEN Scores of successful advertisers know the magic in the word "you". Their ads stress benefits and advantages for your conveniences, your comfort, your savings and economics, your safety, your protection, your pride, etc. Their ads talk in terms of "you" - not themselves. Their success prove their method is not a hackneyed formula. A lesson can be learned from this. People can and will profit if they put the other fellow's interest ahead of their own. People can make a better world for all to live in - if - individuals place themselves and their interests behind those of others. It is a long established truth that when one cares enough for God and his fellow man, one can easily place himself in the third spot. It is also a proved, unsurprising truth that when this is done, one can live more happily....and successfully....GEORGE R. JUSTEN & SON, FUNERAL HOME, 3519 W. Elm Ave., McHenry, III. Phone 385-2400. SPACE:,* AERONAUTICS ̂ TORNADO MAKER CHICAGO--Since Amer ica has some of the most severe tornadoes in the world, most people will be surprised to learn that a scientist at the University of Chicago is creating torna does with a machine. Fortunately, Dr. T. Theo dore Fujita hopes to use his tornado maker for the good of mankind. The machinc makes miniature tornadoes for study in the laboratory. Dr. Fujita is investigating cloud behavior under a NASA grant intended to make photographs from satellites more useful to meteorologists. Predicting tornadoes is nearly impossible with pres ent knowledge. All thunder storms appear to rotate, but only one rotating cloud in a hundred will produce a tor nado. Fi hftpes to understar eventually predict the actions of real tornadoes. Already his research has produced some un« xj-e< ted findings. Until recently, most in vestigators believed that fun nel clouds were produced aa t h u n d e r c l o u d s > e x p a n d e d rapidly, spinning faster and faster. Now, after observing tor nadoes close-up from jet aircraft, Dr. Fujita believes they descend during a pause in the growth of the cloud. Dr. Fujita has also sug gested an explanation for the erratic path of destruc tion caused by tornadoes. A tornado may cut a nar row, winding path through a neighborhood, destroying some homes completely while leaving others untouched be cause the real damage is not done by the main funnel. Instead, several small fun nel clouds inside the main tornado do the real damage. As these "suction vorticea" dance around the base of the large funnel, their immense power destroys nearly every thing they touch. Dr. Fujita's invention is expected to have a major effect on the forecasting and control of weather, perhaps within a decade. Soon, tor nado producing clouds will be recognized up to two hours in advance, and scien tists will be able to act to break them up. In the 1980's machine- made tornadoes may be the only kind around. Seeing Is Believing Woman: Do you have a very large piece of beef? Butcher: Yes, Ma'am.
