Japan by Dick Rabbitt The McHenry High School Warriors opened their North Suburban Conference schedule last Friday night with a win over the visiting "WarHawks" from North Chicago by a score of 7 to 6. During the first half both teams failed to generate any type of offense. The only scoring opportunity that did take place was when North Chicago took over on the Warrior 2, but time ran out before they could get off a plav. On the second half kick off John Cunat, Warrior tackle, returned the ball to the 40. Bentz then hit Knaack for 29 yards. Then Bentz again hit Habich for a first down on the 21, a penalty put the ball on the 11 and it looked like the Warriors were really on the march. The big North Chicago line then took charge and held the Warriors. Later in the period the Warriors started another march, but Isaacs 40 yard field goal attempt just missed by inches. On the first play of the 4th quarter Bentz fumbled on by Dick Rabbitt Last Thursday at McHenry West Campus the "Running Warriors" easily defeated Grayslake and North Chicago in a double dual meet. McHenry defeated North Chicago 15 to 50 with Haines, Tonyan, Mclnerny, Haley, and Mr. Guy Peterson, center of picture, the Isshinryu Karate instructor for the Lake Region YMCA, will conduct a karate demonstration at Central School, 131 E. Paddock St., Crystal Lake, on Wed nesday, Oct. 4. Other men pictured are Dale Marzano and Bob O'Neil. Any adult interested in karate is invited to attend the thirty minute demonstration. At 7 p.m., on Oct. 4, a new 9-week beginners karate class will begin, and at 8:30 p.m., an advance karate will also begin. Registration for these classes are now being accepted at the Lake Region YMCA. Isshinryu karate was developed in 1935 in & Okinawa. It is an excellent means of self-development. The ability to concentrate is quickly developed. Self-defense and self-confidence are also developed. This particular form of karate is "very versatile, quite fast and sensible. Physical Fitness is included in the program. t the 1. Three plays later Watkins, the big "Warhawk" fullback, took it in for the score. The point after failed and North Chicago led 6 to 0. On the kickoff the Warriors settled down to the good old fashioned 3 yard and a cloud of dust football. Starting on their own 37, they marched the ball down the field. Bentz, Ludwig and Knaack, ,,withKnaack going 11 yards for the T.D. Isaacs' kick was good and the Warriors led 7 to 6. The Warhawks drove back, starting on their 44. They ran the ball all the way to the McHenry 10. Then the defense once again took over and held. A 15 yard field goal attempt failed with 1:35 left in the game. The blocking of the field goal attempt was quite a team effort. No less than 6 Warriors were in the Warhawk backfield to make the kick no good. The game was a battle of the defenses, with the Warriors getting the nod. Decker, Mowerer, Grover, Ludwig, Bentz, Dobbertin, Mauch, Freund, Hellios, Cunat. all playing a big part for the Warriors. Turnovers again plagued the "Warriors". They» fumbled 3 times and had 2 passes in tercepted. Once again the Warriors showed they won't quit. Down 6-0 in the fourth quarter, they put together a long march for the winning score. With this young team gaining experience with every game, this team could be a contender during the remainder of the season. Scoring McH. 0 0 0 7 7 N.C. 0 0 0 6 6 T.D. McH. Knaack 11 yd. run. N.C.
