NDE A LEE-FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 1972 SUSAN MARIE LUNDY PLAN WEDDING - Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lundy, Jr., of 2805 Beach View, McHenry, announce the engagement of their daughter, Susan Marie, to Steven Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Smith of Kirkland. Miss Lundy graduated from McHenry high school and Wartburg college, Waverly, Iowa. Her fiance will graduate in May from Westmar college, Iowa. A winter wedding is planned. Harrison School Open House Set For Oct. 10 "Hey, look us over" could serve as a theme for this year's open house at Harrison school in Wonder Lake, which is scheduled for Oct. 2 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. After over a year of self-evaluation and im­ provements, the public is in­ vited to view the results and discuss them with the staff. The faculty members will be stationed in their rooms to present educational materials and facilities, along with details pertaining to the content and format 0f their classes. They hope to spread the word about the new developments in today's education. In grades one through four, parents will also enjoy the children's creative art displays. Parents are reminded that this event should not take the place of the formal conferences on students' progress, scheduled for early November. PTA representatives will be present in grades one through four for the purpose of in­ troducing teachers and keeping a record of guests. Other activities during this open house will be a bake sale, sponsored by the Harrison Band Parents, and a ten-cent book sale in the Learning Resources center. A special kindergarten open house will take place Oct. 10. Ms. Mavis Bagby will have many interesting things to show parents of her kin­ dergarten children. Ap­ pointments for future parent conferences for kindergarten children will be made during open house Oct. 10. Julie Fenwick Heads Orientation College Committee Julie Fenwick, a senior from McHenry, was Welcoming Committee head for the 1972 Ripon College Orientation committee, which welcomed 350 freshmen to the Ripon campus this fall. The com­ mittee was responsible for planning and conducting a week-long schedule of events such as dances, a picnic at Lawsonia at Green Lake, an activities open house, and student-to-student counciling. Fall Activities Of Court Joyce Kilmer Are Outlined Gail McCormack Lovely Bride Gail McCormack was a pretty bride as she exchanged nuptial vows with Daniel J. O'Brien, III, at the altar of St. Patrick's Catholic church, Saturday, Sept. 23. Rev. John W. Cahill officiated at the 3 o'clock afternoon Mass. - The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Timothy L. McCormack of 2408 W. Manor lane, McHenry, and her bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel J. O'Brien of 507 S. Stewart, Libertyville. Special music for the ceremony was provided by the Woodstock choir. The pretty blonde bride wore a floor length, white faille wedding gown featuring long sleeves trimmed in Irish lace and a long, sweeping train enhanced with a large ruffle of Irish lace. Her cathedral length veil was attached to a camelot headpiece. S"he carried a crescent-shaped bouquet of white orchids and stephanotis. Miss Maureen McCormack of McHenry attended her sister as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Kathleen O'Brien of Libertyville, the groom's sister, Mrs. Richard (Jeannie) Jager of McHenry, Mrs. William (Chris) Anson of Hanson, Mich., and Mrs. Robert (Sue) Schaefer of McHenry. The attendants were attired in kelly green plaid dresses trimmed with Irish lace. They wore white felt derbies for their headpieces. Each carried a bouquet of yellow fugi mums and carnations laced with baby's breath. Serving as best man was Terrertce Halloran of Evan- ston. Groomsmen were Charles Stransky of Carbondale, Charles Erdenberger of Grayslake, George Quade of Libertyville and William Brudwick of Grayslake. For her daughter's wedding, Mrs. McCormack chose a floor length gown of yellow lace trimmed with satin and a corsage of green orchids. The bridegroom's mother wore an aqua sheath jacket dress with a beaded neckline and a yellow orchid corsage. Following the ceremony, a reception for 200 friends and relatives was held at the American Legion hall, McHenry. The bride graduated from Marian Central Catholic high school in 1969 and attended Whitewater university. She is employed at Western Electric, Rolling Meadows. Her bridegroom is a 1964 graduate of Libertyville high school and attended the University of Maryland and the College of Lake County. He is presently employed by Jewel Foods. On their return from a wedding trip to Montreal, Canada, the young couple will make their home at 1511 N. Richmond road, McHenry. Court Joyce Kilmer No. 573, Catholic Daughters of America, will hold its annual fall public card party Thur­ sday, Oct. 5, at 8 p.m., in the K.C. hall, 1304 N. Park street. Cards and games will be played. There will be many table and other prizes. The committee for the evening is made up of Mary Jean Lahs, Joyce Weber, Lee Schwarz, Mary Kantorski, Dorothy Weber, Helen Heuser, Theresa Van Buren, Celia Fox, Florence Carey and Rachel Lomansey. In charge of the tickets are Alvera Nye and Lee Schwarz. Refreshments will be sferved before the playing begins. _ The proceeds go toward the different charitable projects which the court sponsors. Regent Mary Jean Lahs, Vice-Regent Bertilla Freund and Mary Agnes Boetsch, appointed recording secretary, attended a workshop in DeKalb Sunday, Sept. 24, for th^courts in the Rockford diocese. Plans will be under way soon for the state convention to be held in Rockford in 1974, of which the courts of the diocese will be hosts. On Sunday, Oct. 15, members of the court will meet at St. Mary's for Mass and Com­ munion at 9:30 a.m. This day has been designated as National Catholic Daughters day and all are urged to attend. Plans have been completed for the Day of Recollection Wednesday, Oct. 25. A bus has been chartered to go to the Stv? Francis monastery and college in Burlington, Wis. The bus will leave from St. Mary's parking lot at 9 a.m. Mass at the Monastery will be at 10 a.m. A hot plate lunch will be served. Departure for McHenry will be at 3 p.m. Anyone interested should call Mrs. Hilary M. (Ann) Rodenkirch or Mrs. William R. (Mary Jean) Lahs. Seventeen members have signed up to date. At the Sept. 21 meeting, a letter of resignation was read and accepted from Gertrude Murphy, recording secretary. The election for this vacant post will be at the Oct. 19 meeting. Mary Agnes Boetsch has been appointed a district deputy in Illinois and Bertilla Freund has been named state chairman of Social In­ volvement of all courts in Illinois. The ladies who go each month to entertain the veterans at Downey hospital are con­ tinuing their commendable work. At the workshop in DeKalb. the court was recognized as outstanding in its involvement in veteran affairs, having a record of sixteen years of visits to Downey. The reception of new members will take place Thursday, Oct. 19 .with a pot- luck supper preceding. Anyone who is interested in becoming a member should contact the regent, Mary Jean Lahs, and she will be most welcomed to the court. And there will be candy, thick, rich, white and deep chocolate nut-filled fudge, School Band Parents Sponsor Luncheon, Revue • The Harrison School Band Parents association of Wonder Lake is sponsoring a luncheon and fashion show Monday, Oct. 23, at the McHenry Country club. The theme of the fashion show is "Stitch Witchery". Any member of the Band Association board will be glac\ to go into details about the theme. Tickets will be available and may be secured from any band parent or Mrs. Kay Gibbons, ticket chairman. Walther League Serves Pancake Supper Friday The Walther league of Zion Lutheran church is serving a pancake supper, including sausages and hash brown potatoes, Friday, Sept. 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church. The public is invited. Tickets may be purchased at the door. Proceeds will be used for equipment in the new youth room. The Best in ... Local Couple Wed 45 Years OBSERVE ANNIVERSARY Mr. and Mrs. Martin J. Spoto of 1719 N. They are Rosemary Brehm, Matteson, 111., sponsored by Sigma Pi fraternity; Karen Knight, Western Springs, 111., Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity; Vicki Ott, Rockford, 111., Inglis hall; Pam Scott, Northbrook, 111., Crandall hall; Carol Strach, McHenry, Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity; and Jacky Young, Montclair, N.J., Black Student union. A student body election will determine the winner, who will reign during Milton's homecoming events this week, concluding Sept. 30. The queen and her court of honor will be introduced to the public at the homecoming football game between the Wildcats and Northwestern college of Watertown on Saturday af­ ternoon. Kickoff will be at 1:30 p.m. at Anderson field. Miss Strach, a junior elementary education major, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sigmund Strach, 3911 W. Kane Ave., McHenry, 111. Highlights of homecoming week for Milton students will be the bonfire and pep rally Friday evening, and several dances and concerts. Milton alumni activities on Saturday, as announced by W. Scott Gray, director of college relations, include a reception for former Rolland Sayre Award (outstanding student athletes) winners and a social hour and dinner in Janesville. This year is the fiftieth an­ niversary of the Sayre award, honoring a popular Milton student athlete who died while attending college. Peter Mooney, Janesville, and Bill Horton, Arlington Heights, 111., Alumni association officers, and their wives will be hosts at the social hour.
