Holiday Hills Bonnie Kellen 385-6344 Woman's Club Candy Sales To BenefH Treasury Attention all Women's Club members! Mary Mahon in forms us our candy has arrived and can be picked up anytime for selling. There is quite a variety to choose from in cluding chocolate covered almonds, chocolate turtles party nuts, golden crumbles! crumble crunch and nut carmel chews. The candy is packaged in sealed cans so there will be no problem in keeping it fresh. It is the hope that all candy will be sold by the first of January and with Thanksgiving and Christmas rapidly ap proaching, they would make excellent gifts during the holidays. So come on gals, what's a few more calories...and the profits will go to the Women's Club to help them replenish their treasury so they can continue with their various projects that they take on to help benefit the entire subdivision. The recent garage sale held by the Holiday Hills Women's Club was quite successful, and Karen Kottke deserves our thanks for organizing this money raising function. Karen would like to express her ap preciation to the following women who volunteered their time to come and help at the sale: Mary Ann Mahon, Midge Teuber, Pat Hughes, Pat Lonergan, Carolyn Stackhouse, Diane . Michaelis, Barb Em mons, Bonnie Kellen, Sharon Kottke, Pam Bellon, Dee Wegener, Vi Abbink, and Debbie Mahon. The club will be having a bake sale on Saturday, Oct. 14, at the market place shopping center. Barb Emmons and Diane Michaelis are in charge of this affair, and will contact every woman in the subdivision for baked goods. To save them time, you can contact either Barb at 385-2782, or Diane at 385-4833, if you can donate something for the sale. The club will be having its October meeting on Wednesday evening, Oct. 11. The program for the night will be a demonstration of the centuries old custom of egg decorating. It is a very unique craft, and many beautiful jeweled eggs will be on display. The demonstrator, Mrs. Bonnie Westphal, will be coming from Maple Park, approximately 60 miles from McHenry, to display her craft. There will be decorated goose eggs in the fotm of Christmas tree or naments, besides many eggs decorated for special oc casions. This is one meeting you should not miss, and because of the distance in volved, the meeting will start promptly at 8:30 p.m. Hope to see everyone there. CONDOLENCES Sincere sympathy is ex tended to the Joe Emmons family at the passing of his father, James Emmons of Holcombe, Wis., on Sept. 13. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY Congratulations are sent to Mr. and Mrs. L. Sawisch of Birch street who on Sept. 27, celebrated their thirty-first wedding anniversary. To help make their special day a memorable one, their son and his wife, Richard and Jan Sawisch, took them out for a delicious dinner on Saturday, Sept. 30. Best wishes are sent to the Sawischs' and may they share many more happy years together. LUCKY HUGHES FAMILY Two years ago, a contest sponsored by a department store in the market place shopping center was held and Denise Hughes was the winner. Last year, Pat Hughes entered the contest and her name was drawn as a winner. This past week, another member of the Hughes family, little Kiki was informed that her name was drawn and she was a proud winner. Kiki was thrilled as was the rest of the SOFT WATER SOFT WATER SOFT WATER SOFT WATER SOFT WATER Tom Huemann Water Conditioning Service on all Makes Sales-Rental 385-3093 SALT DELIVERY * SOFT WATER SOFT WATER SOFT WATER Hughes family and who knows, with such luck, perhaps next year's contest will be Timmy, Tommy or Eddie's year to win a prize. ACCIDENTS DO HAPPEN "Hurry and get better" wishes are sent to Billy Mahon, son of Bill and Mary Ann Mahon of Birch street. Billy is a member of the freshman football team from McHenry high school and fractured his left arm during practice before the game last week. He will have to have it in a metal splint for a month and we all hope he heals very quickly and is not in too much pain. COLORAMAIN (V THE NORTH Marge and Jack Connell of Oak Lane have just returned from a delightful week up in the Northwoods enjoying the colorful scenery, fishing, and just relaxing. They stayed in a little rustic cabin on the shores of Papoose Lake about ten miles from Boulder Junction, Wis., and their only complaint was that the time passed too fast. Since this is "Colorama" time in Wisconsin, the trees were at their peak in flaming colors and it was a sight to behold. A trip up to Lake of the Clouds in Porcupine Mountain State Park on the shores of Lake Superior in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan was also enjoyed as here too, all the trees were ablaze in their full colors. They caught a few fish, saw a few "Snow-flakes" as one day the weather was very cold, but best of all just enjoyed the peace and quiet of the Nor thwoods. On their trip home, they spent a day with Marge's brother, his wife and three children who live near Wausau, Wis. Visits are few and far between, so they always enjoy the chance of getting together and catching up on all the news. They traveled over a thousand miles on their trip and it was wonderful just "getting away from it all", but also was nice coming home to all the kids. A NEW BABY IS WELCOMED Marge and Bruce Gilbert of Birch street are very proud to announce the arrival of Brian Derek Gilbert on Monday, Sept. 25. Brian was born at Nor thwest Community hospital and weighed 6 lbs., 5V2 ozs. Besides his parents, little Brian's grandparents are also very happy. His maternal grand parents are Mr. and Mrs. Joseph P. Stauner of Buffalo Grove. His paternal grand parents are Mr. and Mrs. Jesse P. Gilbert of Ingleside. Congratulations to the new, and very happy family. .OFF TO COLLEGE Joyce and Wally Karafa, and Troy recently spent a weekend driving their eldest son, Guy, to Michigan Tech in Houghton, Mich., Upper Peninsula. Guy is a freshman at Michigan Tech, and we all wish him the best of luck in his college career. Because of the season, the weekend was a beautiful one, as the colors of the autumn were at their best in the Nor thwoods. So even though the family's thoughts were happy and sad at the same time, they thoroughly enjoyed the . beautiful drive north. BIRTHDAYS Only three birthdays this week, but the wishes are just as big. Happy birthday to Kimmie White on Oct. 12, and Bill Boettcher and Bev Saunders on Oct. 13. OCTOBER 6, 1972 Code for Upholstery Fabrics A voluntary guide to cleaning is showing up on labels ^attached to some pieces of upholstered furniture. Certain mills now provide clean ing information that will help customers know how to take care of the upholstered furniture they buy. If the care directions have a "W", it means that water-based cleaning agents or foam may be used for cleaning. An "S" symbol means only mild, pure, water-free dry cleaning solvents may be used for cleaning the fabric. If there is a "W-S" on the code, water- based cleaning agents and foam may be used for cleaning. This fabric also may be cleaned with mild, water-free solvents. If the fabric appears to havte an "X" rating, it means the fabric should be vacuumed or brushed lightly to remove soil. The owner should not use foam or liquid cleaning agents of any type. Have you vacuumed the pleats in your drapes and the space under your refrig erator including the motor lately? These are choice hiding places for roaches to deposit their eggs.
