ARIZONA VACATION The Kelseys, Bill ahd Karen, and fair haired daughter, Erin, recently departed from rainy -Oakwood Shores and flew to sunny Tucson, Ariz., to visit with Karen's folks, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pedersen. While there, they toured the beautiful national parks and national monuments in Tucson. A side tilp to Mexico included dinner at El Cid's restaurant, unique because it is located in a cave. Listening to Mexican musicians strumming their* guitars, the Kelseys sampled Mexican type foods, one of which was green turtle soup which Karen described as "super". . CHRISTMAS BAZAAR The Help of Christians Guild of the Ladies Sodality of Christ the King church is planning a Christmas bazaar and bake sale on Dec. 9 and 10. Members are asked to start thinking about what items they would like to make for the bazaar. Parishioners of the church are also reminded about the annual Thanksgiving clothing drive. Now is the time to start setting aside clean, usable clothing for the drive. SMALLTOWN LIVING Just when I was almost convinced that everybody likes to see their name in print, one gal who hails from Chicago became rather indignant when I wanted to write some news about her family. "Good Heavens!", she said, "I can't get used to this small town living. In Chicago, we have to die to get our name in the paper!" VISIT NEW YORK When Dr. Santo Ruggero and his charming wife, Mary, were in New York City recently to receive his degree as a specialist in family practice, they also spent a few hours seeing some of the sights of fun city. For instance, they walked on the most expensive real estate in the world, $600-sq. foot - where? on Wall Street. Other attractions were the Cultural Center where they viewed some impressive art work, a ride on the subways which is an ex­ perience all its own, a visit to Macy's - world's largest department store, a climb all the way up the skinny steps of the Statue of Liberty, a tour of the United Nation's Building, a visit to a cemetery right in the middle of the city with graves dating back to 1763 and signs that implore "Please" don't feed the pigeons!, and a smorgasbord of good eating adventures including Scan- danavian, Jewish, Russian and Japanese cookery. LOVE STORY I guess it must be true - I'm different. Erich Segal's novel "Love Story" had been a fantastic best seller and when I read it I thought, this is the best writing in America today? This rather small, rather dirty, rather ineffectual story of two people whose personalities really turn me off? Then the movie came to T.V. Curiosity got the best of me and I wat­ ched the flick. Again I was disappointed. The six han­ dkerchiefs I had ready went back into the drawers, still clean. Me, who cries at com­ mercials, Marcus Welby and most any soap opera. What is it anyhow? Maybe love means never having to cry unless it's about someone who can touch your heart and make your life just a little bit better or a little more meaningful for having done it. It seems to me that on occasion the American public has been fooled. As I sit here alone with my thoughts, my third cup of coffee and my dry eyes, I can't help wondering if Mr. Segal is related in any way to Clifford Irving. The WAC college Juniors are young women who will enter j their senior year this fall. They 'enrolled in the Army Reserve for the four week orientation to help them decide on a career in the Army. Miss Merkel, who is at­ tending Indiana university, Bloomington, will be placed on active duty during her senior year if she is accepted for the WAC student officer program. Young women in the program receive full pay and allowances during the school year more than $300 monthly and all other service benefits. On graduation, they will serve two years as WAC officer. For those of you that have not heard, the Friday night movies are supervised by four or five adults and approximately seventy children and a few adults attend them every week. Some children have begun causing disturbances during the movies. If this continues the Friday evening programs will come to an end. If your children attend unescorted and sit quietly this is fine but on the other hand if yours are the ones who get noisy and rowdy they will spoil it for everyone who would like to enjoy the movies. It will be held at the com­ munity hall in Lakemoor, _ beginning at 1 p.m. After the meeting the ladies played bunco and the following were the prize winners, first, Jessie Corbett, second, Helen Netzel, third, Buelah Smogur, fourth, Marge Peak, and Helen Para won the booby prize. Hostesses for the evening were Joan Delatorre and Lu Gravenstuck. Proceeds from the bake sale will go towards sand for on the beach on the highway. ATTENDS WEDDING James Mentzer made a trip to Bay City, Mich., to attend the wedding of his cousin, Miss Linda McChesney. The bridegroom is Stephen Ryan. Both the bride and her new husband are residents of Bay City. CELEBRATION On Sept. 30, Larry and Jo Bartelt had twenty-two people at their home. The occasion was to honor four of them who were sharing their birthdays. The honored guests were Margie Clark, Dan Kohler, Jim Mentzer and Bud Kohler. Those present to help the four celebrate were the Clarence Clark family, Jean Beaver and her family, Snookie Ringberg and family, Mary Ringberg and family, Helen arid Gene Rodde, Sallie Rogers and Jo and Larry. I understand a good time was had by all. The Bud Kohler family was there also.
