(DON PEASLEY PHOTO) Inspirational Story Highlights Volunteers Needed Cornerstone Setting f=Qr pro^Qti0n Program A n incni t*i n rf ovomnln nf An inspiring example of perseverance and towering support by friends, as recalled by actress Patricia Neal in her real-life rehabilitation story, highlighted cornerstone setting ceremonies at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago Monday noon. Miss Neal, world-famous award winner for her roles on the stage and in movies, suf fered a series of strokes in 1965, triggered by an aneurysm in the brain. The plucky 46-year- old former Northwestern student was partly paralyzed. She suffered double vision and her brain forgot how to put words together. Her straight-forward recitation of how professional care saved her life and how volunteers working with her helped her recuperate was an appropriate climax to the topping-out ceremonies for the $26 million facility in the North western University Medical center on Chicago's near-north side at East Superior street. Among participants in the ceremony was Congressman Robert McClory, Lake Bluff, who coordinated efforts to obtain federal appropriations to help finance the huge rehabilitation facility. About one-third of the money comes from federal and state grants and two-thirds from Would you volunteer to aid an individual who has unresolved problems and who your relationship may have a profound effect upon? Would you be willing to spend from four to five hours per month with an individual who is in need of your help? You, as a volunteer, would have assistance available at all times. If a problem arises which you, the volunteer, cannot resolve, the probation officer is ready to provide assistance, advice and reassurance. The volunteer is an important part of the team under the Department of Court Services. Teamwork is essential for the general welfare of the client, com munity and the Court. You, as a volunteer, will realize that people, young and old alike, have problems. In seeking solutions for the problems, they may not act within the law and, con- private sources. The 18-story building is scheduled for completion in mid-1974. This new research, training and patient care center will more than double inpatient capacity and triple outpatient capacity of present facilities on East Ohio street.
