By Gerry Kuck The Ladies auxiliary to VFW Post 4600 welcomed Eugenia Wade and Betty Mae Honath as new members at the October meeting. Catherine Lichamer was welcomed as a reinstated member at the same time. Americanism Chairman Chris Amore reported that Ila Hogan, president, and Gerry Kuck, Public Relations chairman, had accompanied her at the presentation of an American Flag to stand in theoffice of the McHenry Junior high school. Accepting the flag on behalf of the school was Don Toole, principal. Vi Schuble, National Home chairman, announced she had candy, four varieties, which she is selling to raise funds for various projects connected with the National Home. She asked the ladies to turn in their banks also for the child welfare fund. Downey Veterans Hospital chairman, Mary Kuemmel, reported that she attended Downey alone during the month , of September. The men played games with canteen books, candy bars and gum used as prizes. Refreshments of coffee, doughnuts and fruit were served. Jane Delke, Legislative chairman, once more urged the members at the meeting to get out and vote in the November election. She also asked them to read about the candidates and their platforms. At the close of the meeting she distributed copies of an article which had appeared in the "Illinois V.F.W. News". This article explained the meaning of the "Peace Symbol". Marge Moreth, Membership chairman, announced that 5th district of the VFW Ladies auxiliary was in eighth place with paid up members. She also stated that we had 126 paid up members which represents an 84 percent. Marge is trying for 100 percent paid up members before Nov. 18, which is the date for 5th district mem­ bership kick-off dinner to be held in Bensenville. Rehabilitation chairman, Elaine Barnes, asked all members to report to her the time they spend on any of the phases connected with the VFW rehabilitation programs. Voice of Democracy Co- chairman announced in the absence of the chairman that the contest will be held this year. The high school has been contacted and literature distributed. Barbara Kuck, Youth chairman, reported that the Devilaires Girls' drill team had marched in the Johnsburg fiftieth anniversary parade and had also participated in the flag raising ceremony. She also stated that while some of the members of the drill team were posting colors for the American Legion installation in Algonquin, some of the others were working as waitresses for the membership kick-off dinner in McHenry Sept. 16. Dec. 20 was decided upon for the annual Christmas party. Complete details on this will be sent to the members in the very near future, along with the information that the meeting night has been changed to the second Wednesday of the month by request of the post. • i The next regular meeting of the auxiliary will be held Wednesday, Nov. 8. NOVEMBER2 Lakeland Park Women's Club Meeting - 12:30 p.m. Lakeland Park Community Fall Dinner Dance Planned "Candlelight in Autumn" will be the theme for a fall dinner- dance at Marian Central Catholic high school Saturday evening, Nov. 11. Those at­ tending will hear the "big band" sound that will always have a place in the hearts of music lovers. The Marian Central gym­ nasium will be transformed into a magnificent ballroom for this occasion with a candlelight buffet served from 8-10 p.m. Dancing will begin at 9 and contirtue until 1 a.m. A great evening of fun and entertainment is promised for all parents, alumni, and friends of Marian Central. Proceeds from the dance will be placed in the Marian's general operating fund. Reservations may be made by writing or phoning Marian Central school. Grams Club Names Officers At Luncheon At a recent luncheon held at Floyd's in Dundee the McHenry Grams Chapter 826 held election of officers for the ensuing year. Those named were President, Elvira Dimler, Vice-President, Bertha Quinn, Treasurer, Louise Thompson and Secretary, Minnie Housen. The next meeting of the Grams club will be Nov. 1 at 12:30 p.m. at the club room in the city hall. House, 1717 North Sunset Drive. Principal To Address Home, School Group St. John's Home and School association, Johnsburg, will hold the first meeting of the season Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the school learning center. Guest speaker for the evening will be Sister Mary Estelle of the Order of Sisters of St. Francis, who is principal of Sacred Heart school, Lombard. Sister Estelle, an authority on individualized progession, will speak on the philosophy of the self-pacing programs in schools today. The evening program, which promises to be very interesting, will conclude with refresh­ ments. Alice Peet Honored For Long Service Miss Alice Peet was honored at a dinner Sunday,.marking the twenty-fifth year of service to Vycital's Hardware. She was described by the owners as a "dependable, loyal and valued employee". Strong ties and links of friendship between Miss Peet and the Vycital family have been formed through the years. Besides a cash gift, the honored dinner guest was given an inscribed gold brooch. She expressed a realization, too, that many kind thoughts were included. PLEDGE SORORITIES Sharon L. Vogt and Patricia Salter, both of McHenry, have been pledged to social sororities at Augustana college, Rock Island. Miss Vogt, a junior, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Vogt, 1510 N. North drive, pledged Chi Omega Gamma. Miss Salter, a sophomore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willard J. Salter, 1202 W. Sunset drive, pledged Kappa Tau. PANHELLENIC MEETS The McHenry Panhellenic will meet Monday, Oct. 23, at the home of Mrs. Dennis Conway, 3806 W. St. Paul avenue, at 8 p.m. There will be a lecture on early American art by Mrs. Howard Weiss. PRESENT SHOW « The Harrison School Band Parents have been working hard for the last four months on a luncheon and fashion show, "Stitch Witchery", to be held Monday, Oct. 23, at the McHenry Country club at 11:30 a.m. A11 fashions are handmade and a very entertaining show has been promised. All the proceeds from the show will go to the Harrison school band of Wonder Lake. For tickets, call ticket chairman Mrs. Kay Gibbons, 653-9669.
