Lewis has announced a grant of $6,745 for an in-service training program for public librarians interested in library service to young people in grades six through ten. Because of the limited number of young adult specialists currently in public libraries, the executive board of the children's section of the Illinois Library association requested that the Graduate School of Library Science at Rosary college create an in stitute which would deal with the adolescent, the influence of schools on public libraries, reference service, selection and use of books, films, recordings and other media, and program planning. The institute, which began Oct. 4, and is supported by the Illinois State Library and funded under the Library Services and Construction Act, Title I, will include lecture, discussion and workshop sessions within the framework of ten two-hour evening sessions. Rosary college has waived tuition and fees for the 30 librarians who have been accepted to take part in the no-credit institute. Although participants from other areas of Illinois are eligible, the institute will directly serve nine urban and racially mixed Illinois counties (Cook, McHenry, Lake, DeKalb, Kane, DuPage, Will, Grundy and Kendall). you'ez THIM ON TOP.
