GET-WELL WISHES It's a lonesome 'ole town - Wonder Lake - since one of our most loved citizens, Gloria Coughlin, has been hospitalized in Chicago. We understand that at this time, although she is unable to receive flowers and such things, that she can have mail and would appreciate cards sent to her by her friends. Her address is: Gloria Coughlin, Rush Presbyterian St. Lukes Medical Center Hospital, 1753 W. Congress Parkway, Chicago, 111. 60612. Gloria and her nephew, Pat McMahon, both celebrated their Oct. 13 birthdays away from home this year - Gloria in the hospital and Pat serving with the Marines in Iceland. I've been working since my husband died in 1964, but my health isn't as good as it used to be and I'd like to cut down on my work. Am I eligible for Social Security payments? S.R. - McHenry Answer: Yes. You can get reduced widow's payments at 60; full widow's benefits start at 62. If the work you mentioned you are doing is covered by Social Security, you may also be eligible for retirement benefits at age 62 on your own record provided you earned credit for enough work under the program. The amount of your earnings could affect your monthly payments. You should call, write, or visit any Social Security office for complete details. Question: My son died recently leaving a widow and a small child who are now getting monthly Social Security payments. A neighbor told me that I might be able to get monthly checks as a parent. My son did support me, but I thought that a parent could not get payments if a worker left a widow and child. Is my neigh bor right or am I? F.S. - Woodstock Answer: Your neighbor is right. You may qualify for a monthly Social Security payment if you are 62 and if you were dependent on your son for at least one-half your support at the time of his death. You should call, write, or visit any Social Security office for more information about applying for payments. Question: My husband is 67 and gets monthly Social Security retirement payments. I'm 58 and totally disabled. Can I get disability benefits on my husband's work record? G.T. - McHenry Answer: No. You are not eligible to receive a wife's benefit until you're 62 unless you have a child in your care who is entitled to cash payments on your husband's work record. But, if you've worked long enough and recently enough, you may be eligible for disability benefits on your own work record if your disability will keep you from working for a year or more. your week ahead DR. A.W. DAMIS Forecast Period: October 29 to November 5,1972 ARIES Mar. 21 - Apr. 19 TAURUS Apr. 20 • May 20 Hold it, Aries, Throw off the urge to plant seeds of dissention. It's not a matter of morals; it's a matter of diplomacy. This week's stellar pattern indicates a series of minor irritations that could very well throw you off sound material gains. Don't fight side battles. Take no one at face value. What's more, don't give way to your natural sympathy. It's highly improbable that a devious associate will con tact you. Inner calmness shows in your chart. Apparently, you are going to turn the tide on a chronic problem that has you out of control emotionally. Back off from overtures that will come from the opposite sex. It seems as though mischief is on the march, for your sign. Rest, diet and a checkup is recommended. Also, observe basic safety rules. You might be prone to error because of overwork. You are not a student of the theory that you show your feelings. Nonetheless, your ability to pretend will be at a low ebb. This cosmic cycle has rare portends, indeed. It seems as though putting routine tasks aside is recommended, strongly. Get out of your skin, so to speak. What you look upon as being a boresome com mitment or obligation, will indeed, become a pleasureable event. Contact with the opposite sex is favorable, also. Re-establishment of old ties and friendships show in your chart. You are going on a nostal gic trip down memory lane. Apparently, a member of the opposite sex will hit the formula that will please you. Advice? Don't over-react, emotionally. Keep under 33 degrees fahrenheit. No matter how determined; no matter how lucky you feel - avoid a competitive situation that requires you to put money on the line. He passed away on Oct. 10. His survivors include his wife Marian, two daughters, Mrs. Jeanne (Elliott) Wheeland of Crystal Lake and Mrs. Alice (Thomas) Boyle of Greeley, Colo,; seven grandchildren, three sisters and one brother. John and Marian lived at 208 S. Highland drive in Lakemoor. John served two terms as a member of the board of trustees, at the time of his death he was on the zoning board of appeals. On behalf of the community, by way of this column, to Mrs. Krai and her remaining family, I would like to express sincere condolences on their loss. IN CLOSING I would like to take this op portunity to let the readers know that without the help of several persons I would not have a column in every week. I appreciate the help of Florence and Walter Martensen, Wanda Minton, Donald Leske, and my daughter, Laurie Hertel. They are the ones who have dropped the column off at the Plain- dealer office, or they have HORNSBYf ^ f a m i l y centers ^ For fifty years . .. we've offered healthy savings on beautiful buys. 1.49 Gillette "Dry Look" 7 o«. aerosol 67 //$TER\XV ^STERINE ^iuwic ^ ..
