This Saturday, Nov, 4, the Warriors travel to Woodstock to battle the Blue Streaks in the final game of the season. Kickoff time is 2 p.m. (STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD) A*. When we thanked Mrs. Bill Hiller for more of her famous doughnuts, she said, "Now, don't you put my name in the paper." Oh -- no! We wouldn't think of it. We always think of that song - - Can she bake a cherry pie, Billy, Boy -- Can she make a cherry pie, charming Billy? We'll bet Grandma Hiller can EARL WAISH So I Hear SPORTS EDITORJ bake any kind of a pie. She can sure make doughnuts! They say the proof of the puddin' is in the eating: Just give us a couple of those doughnuts with a cup of coffee and we furnish the proof. The Hillers just celebrated their golden anniversary. Met the John Thelens who just celebrated their 49th and look healthy enough to hit their 75th. Quite a shin-dig at McHenry Country Club as the 50th an niversary of the club was celebrated. Our friend John Busscher was in to tell us about it weeks ago - and we both wonder where those weeks went. A lot of the party centered around Al and Vera Purvey, who came to McHenry in 1922 to add a lot of class to the newly formed golf club. They have a host of friends and a world of respect. Of course, we had to have our fun in telling about working on the course before Al arrived. Johnson is the only living charter member of the club. The crowd was sorry that George is hospitalized and could not attend. George's sons, George E. and Frank, attended and said hello to many for their Dad. Charlie Lasch and his Lillie were there. Uncle Charlie must be the oldest living member of the club. And he's very much alive. We had fun watching others have such a jolly time. And that roast beef was really something to lay your teeth into. As the big election comes down the stretch, we have heard all the things that are wrong about the candidates. Now, we'd like to hear something good. If a fellow wants to hear what's wrong with him, all he has to do is get into a political fight. Really enjoyed listening to George Street singing and urged Eddie Bimbo to throw out the juke box. Hear plenty of singers on TV who can't com pare to George -- call him "The Voice". This was one of the finest sophomore games that I have ever seen. These two teams with much respect for one another played a first half of "rock 'em" "sock 'em" foot ball. The blocking and tackling . was fierce, while each team was waiting for a break that didn't occur. The score at halftime was 0 to 0.
