Governor Ogilvie Needs Your Help To Reduce Your Property Taxes Governor Ogilvie has called a special session of the legislature to freeze property taxes immediately and to work for property tax reductions next year. Dan Walker thinks this is a bad idea. What do you think? If you want lower property taxes, vote for Governor Ogilvie on November 7th. Governor Ogilvie has already removed the personal property tax on farm equipment, household furnishings and the family car. He also gave our senior citizens their first tax break, a $1,500 homestead exemption, and laws providing up to $500 cash rebates to reduce ex cessive property taxes. Governor Ogilvie has already done a lot. And, hell do more. Re-elect Governor Ogilvie. Vote Republican November 7 Sponsored by The McHenry Republican Central Committee JR A1J our dan. Chairman him know if the unit will bring colors. PROCLAMATION Whereas, Nov. 11, 1918, was officially established and designated by our President, Woodrow Wilson, and the military of many allied nations, as Armistice Day, and com memorated as such until 1954, when the Congress of the United States established Nov. 11 as Veterans! Day, honoring all veterans of all wars, and, Whereas, the veterans of World War I did always commemorate this day, and always will, by honoring our Buddies, both living and dead, with appropriate ceremonies, and, Whereas, we as veterans of Foreign Wars, and their auxiliary, feel the necessity and encouraging loyalty and patriotism into the hearts of all Americans, do hereby support and encourage the five-point portion of the American Creed, which reads as follows: 1. We believe it our duty to our country to love it, 2. To support its Constitution, 3. To obey its laws, 4. To respect its flag, 5. To defend it against all enemies, ' Therefore, I, Donald P. Doherty, Mayor of McHenry, to honor this Armistice Day, 1972, as a special day of com memoration in McHenry, do hereby request that citizens of McHenry participate in the Veterans Day program, as organized by the American Legion, Post 491: Johnsburg Post 1313; the Veterans of Foreign wars, Post 4600; and the Veterans of World War I, Barracks 1315, and I further request that all citizens of McHenry face the east for one minute at the hour of eleven o'clock on Armistice Day, and that McHenry area churches ring their bells, or play their chimes at 11 o'clock. Mayor Donald P. Doherty INVESTIGATION Saturday afternoon county officials received a report from McHenry Shores subdivision that while a small girl was playing at the corner of Beach and Hilltop streets, a pickup truck occupied by a male driver stopped and asked her if she would accept candy or a dime. No effort had been made to compel her to enter the vehicle. A description of the vehicle and driver were ob tained and a search was begun but no one was found by county authorities. DO I M IT? "Dear Editor: "The Voter's Guide for General Election on Tuesday, Nov. 7, handed out locally by the League of Women Voters in October, contains very serious errors that may scare people away from the polls unless it is corrected. It is unfortunate that copies are being circulated county-wide. "In the column entitled "Voting for the First Time?" new voters are erroneously told that they will be asked their party affiliation; they will be handed a green ballot for Democrat and buff for Republican; and they will be guided to a booth correspon ding with the party selected. "The November election is not a primary! That was held last March. "No voter will be asked whether he is affiliated with any political party; and he need not be affiliated in order to vote in this election. "There will be a separate judicial ballot, with all the names of candidates for judgeships, regardless of party. "There will not be separate voting booths for the separate parties. All booths will be identical, and any voter can use any booth. "Furthermore, the voter may either vote a straight ticket for all candidates of one party, or he may 'cross-over', voting for one or more can didates of other parties. And the candidates they vote for will be known only to themselves. "Sincerely yours, "Richard F. Hahn" (Editor's note: A special section in this issue of the Plaindealer devoted to election information is correct) PROTECT OUR RIGHTS "Dear Sirs: "As election time is drawing near, many voters are un decided how to vote and some decided not to vote at all. "We know that the radicals and those that are against our flag and country will vote. If our boys are willing to lav down their lives to protect what we stand for, surely we can go to the polls to protect our rights. , Let us not let them down now. 1 "Every man and woman's vote is important. If only one non-voter in every ,precinct in the United States would vote, it could make a decided dif ference who is elected. "Let us all be true Americans and 'VOTE'. "Hope to see you at the polls.
