STATE MEDICAL SOCIETY SUPPORTS HEALTH VOTE (Continued from page 1) county health department is prevention of disease. "Increasing urbanization brings people closer together and burdens water, sewer and other facilities. The overloading of these facilities and intermingling of people are conditions which greatly enhance the spread <rf com municable disease," Dr. Jirka said. "A county health department must be eternally vigilant to see that its prevention programs work. Many persons are unaware of a department which is doing a good job because health problems in the county are few, and only problem areas tend to receive publicity." The ISMS president said that the referendum must pass for the McHenry county depart ment to maintain its present level of services, let alone prevent an unexpected health crisis. "If the department is allowed to deteriorate through lack of funds to cope with present and as yet unmet health needs, then all of McHenry county's citizens may suffer severely," Dr. Jirka declared. "The ISMS board of trustees urges passage of the referendum." MUSI N1 N' MEANDERIN" (Continued from page 1) contempt for living things came to light at least twice in our own community this past week. The first occurred at the Northern Pump Co. farm at McCullom Lake in the early hours of Saturday morning. One of the farm's purebred Hereford bulls, valued at $2,500, was found dead in a ditch along the road. In vestigation revealed that it had been led through a hole cut in the fence. A length of hay rope was found around its neck with a slip knot which had strangled the animal. ' Less violent, perhaps, but with malice of heart was action on the stream that runs through the McHenry Country club property. For some time, one of the residents of the adjoining subdivision, Edward Bonslett, has been feeding the Mallard ducks, and also four white Chinese geese and a white domestic duck. , f. Five weeks ago tfoo of the Chinese geese disappeared during the night. Neighbors heard three shots the same night but it has not been determined whether or not the incidents were related. Children enroute to school reportedly often use the ducks for target practice, using stones. Maybe it's time their education was widened, possibly to the extent of target practice on the seat of the P3nts K.A.F. apartment burglarized.
