(STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD) WALSH' I Hear SPORTS EDITORJ Dear Earl, Being the good half Irishman I am and you being a full blooded Irishman, I "will" my parking space to you. Course you may have to argue a little with the higher ups. Must tell you I let Marie down and rooted for Oakland in the World Series. Now next year when the Cubs and Sox are at it I'll be back with the National League. Our Pittsfield team won its 61st game last night. Sure wish you and Marie could see them play. Tell everyone "hi" and you SPORTS FANS! I BET YOU DIDN'T KNOW Brought To You By John Jepsen Oddly enough, some foot ball teams have done better without a coach than one!... For example, Yale played the 12 seasons from 1876 through 1887 without a coach and won 71 games while losing only 2-- and that's the best 12-year re cord in the history of the school--better than in all the years they've had coaches. Can you guess who is the only player in football history to make the official All-American football team as both a lineman and a back?...This unusual record is held by Bronko | Nagurski...He played as an • All-American tackle and I also at fullback when he • played for Minnesota in | the late 1920s. * | Did you know that five • of today's big league pro • football teams had differ- I ent nicknames when they | first started? Thanks, Phyllis. We used that parking space today. Will carry your letter in the car in case anybody questions our right. You must have some football team in Pittsfield. Who do you play? So you are going back to the National League. We don't want fans who jump the fence then bounce over again. Marie wasn't too happy with the World Series, but Irish eyes are smilin' since the Chicago Bears won three straight. Bill DeVries was happy to remind us about the Cubs landing three men on the All- Star team until we mentioned Ron Santo. He wants to give Ron to the White Sox for a broken bat. Jim Keevil is another one to brag about all the All-Stars on the Cub team. Can't see how they lose with so many stars. v So I Hear: Our city Chamber of Com merce can do much to assist the citizens. Every fall set aside a week when the citizens can call on the city's stockpile of treated road sand. Let each one pick up a bucket or 2 of it for home use. In driving thru town you always find several youngsters riding bicycles "every-which- way". They have no regard few- safety, or auto traffic. Appears they own the road. Earlier this year several local business men had a show at Parkland school gym. Among these displays, the State of Illinois had quite an educational bo6th. They were giving out literature on "Rules of the Road" AND "Bicycle rules of the Road." ALL FREE. Bicyclists also have rules to use on the road. How many parents took one of these books home? How many youngsters ever read one of these books? Let's get one of these books in every home. Let's have these youngsters learn some rules - all before we have a tragedy. Bicycle rules are much the same as car rules. These youngsters are our future car drivers - they should learn now. GRANDMA Dear Grandma - First, last and always the driver must be careful. From there on we are all for a training program for bicycle riders. Kids do not know the rules. When a 15 or 16 year old rides through a busy in tersection without looking to one side or the other, it is something different. As for the sand - Let's not toss that at the Chamber of Graceful desperation to shown by the M on tin! Mustangs as they battled Cary last Thursday afteriiMii at Freund field in an attempt to win first place in the Tri County league in flag football. The 19-0 win by Cary placed the two teams in a tie for second place in the league. The four Mootini players shown from left are Lee Stein- sdorfer (face only), Tony Balchunas. Tom Thompson (back to camw.. and Tom Toayn.^^ pHOTO-WAYNEGAYLORD) Commerce. The program has been carried on by the Junior Chamber of Commerce in past years. You must have missed it. Your ideas are good, Grandma, but now that you have these things off your chest, send us a contribution that will tickle our funny bone. Yours, "S.I.H." Read a chart the other day - "Desirable weights for men 25 years and older." It can't be! According to that chart, we should be 7 feet and three in ches tall. TEN PIN QUEENS Oct. 30, 1972, 9:30 . (Hey, Koleno, where are you??) Warriors Close Out Season At Woodstock Saturday Afternoon By Dick Rabbitt The McHenry high scjjflpl^ Warriors close out their foot ball season tomorrow against an old Blue Streaks last game North Suburban Conference. As you already know the Streaks will enter the Northwest Suburban next season. The Elect DAN WEISZ Ballot *127 STATE'S ATTORNEY Don't put the old crowd in the New Courthouse" Paid By Citeens For Dan Weisz, 15016 South St., Woodstock fj ) Many you remember the old North Five Conference, with Har vard, Crystal Lake and Marengo. Even when McHenry entered the SWANI conference, these two teams played each other. In the 18 years of North Suburban play the Warriors have won 10 lost 6 and tied 2. The two ties coming in 1963 with a score of 0 too and in 1964 when the score was 20 to 20. Woodstock has had an up nnd down season. Their conference record stands at 3 wins 2 losses and 1 tie. They played a scoreless tie against Zion last week. From all indications the Warriors will have their work cut out. The Streaks are led by quarterback Ken Martine, and fullback Bob Freund. With Smith returning to the Streak lineup after an early season injury. Martine will have his favorite receiver against the Warriors. On the other hand the Warriors are long overdue. Their losses have been by a touchdown or less. They have had their bright spots. With Bullet Bob Staley throw ing and Bobby Habich on the receiving end, the Warriors could put on their own aerial circus Saturday. The last game of the season, the foe, an old rival Woodstock, an encouraging crowd from McHenry, and the Warriors could put it all together for a BIG WIN. For the last time this year I will gaze into the old "Crystal Ball". Last week results were 3 wins 0 losses and 1 tie, bringing the season's total to 17 wins, 6 losses, and 1 tie for a 700 average.
