A MEAL IN MINUTES PAGE 5-PLAINDEALER-WEDNB5DAY, NOVEMBER 8. 1972 What a joy for the home- maker! Now it is possible to step into the supermarket after a busy day and pick up great convenience foods for a complete three course chicken dinner. Look for ready-to- heat-and-serve frozen pre pared foods. They are real minute-makers. Once home you will need only about 25 minutes for preparation and another 30 minutes for cooking. Then voila, an attractive, tasty meal will be ready to serve, eat and enjoy. Free of fuss and muss. For the main course rely on breaded, fried Chicken and Chips. To prepare Chicken and Chips simply spread frozen chicken and French fires on a shallow baking sheet. Heat 25- 30 minutes in a preheated 400 degree Fahrenheit oven. Turn chicken after first 10 minutes. Think of the preparation steps eliminated. No washing, peeling, paring, slicing, frying or draining for the chips. No washing, wiping, drying, dredging, dipping, crumbing, or frying for the chicken. Clean-up is a breeze. What a saving of time, energy, ingredients and equipment! Tips For The Homemaker When buying an appliance, the consumer receives a written assurance called a warranty. Patricia Sullivan, University of Illinois Extension adviser, Home Economics, explains that such a statement by the manufacturer assures you of the quality of the appliance and its performance and states the length of time for which the manufacturer will be responsible for the proper functioning of the appliance. It is also often called a guarantee. The type of warranty you "buy" with the appliance should be considered along with the size, price, color and other features of the appliance. Miss Sullivan suggests you evaluate the warranty in terms of these questions: - Does the warranty or guarantee cover the entire product, or only parts? - Does the manufacturer pay the labor bill included with the repair, or do you? - Is the dealer, service agency or, manufacturer responsible for repairing the product? - Who pays for the repairs, parts and shipping charges? - How long does the warranty or guarantee last on the entire product and on individual parts or assemblies? - If the product is out of use because of a service problem, or if it has to be removed from the home for repair, will a substitute product or service be provided? Who will provide the substitute? Some implied warranties on equipment are legally included in the guarantee at the time of purchase. Merchantability and fitness of an appliance for a particular purpose are examples of implied warranties, says Patricia Sullivan, McHenry county Extension adviser, Home Economics. An implied warranty arises by operation of law rather than out of an agreement or action of the parties to the sale and purchase. The trend in recent legal decisions regarding implied warranties is that they amount to representation that a product can be used in safety and that it is suitable for its intended use. Merchantability means that the product sold for a par ticular purpose will serve that purpose. For example, an appliance labeled as an automatic dishwasher may be sold as such. Fitness for purpose means a Eighth Grade Students Present Plays At Harrison The eighth grade at Harrison school is giving two plays, "This Younger Generation" and "The Whites of Their Eyes." "This ^Younger Generation" is about how one generation looks at the other and the comment is always "Gee! What a generation!" The present generation says don't trust anyone over thirty and the product sold for a particular purpose will serve that pur pose. That is, the automatic dishwasher will wash dishes automatically. Miss Sullivan points out that some warranties disclaim these two implied rights. The warranty might state: "This guarantee is given in lieu of all other warranties, express or implied, including any implied warranty or merchantability or fitness for particular purpose and of all other liabilities not strictly in accordance with the above.*-** • - If the warranty contains such a disclaimer, determine what exact terms are offered as a replacement for these implied rights. others say it's their parents' fault. "The Whites of Their Eyes" is about a bunch of kids who are giving a play called "The Pageant of Freedom". Several days before the play they run into financial difficulties but a phone call from a quiz program saves the day. Come and see what happens at Harrison school, Wonder Lake.
