Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus con cerning you." The nature of true gratitude is emphasized in commentary to be read from "Science and Health with Key to the Scrip tures" by Mary Baker Eddy, including this citation: "Are we reaUy grateful for the good already received? Then we shall avail ourselves of the blessings we have, and thus be fitted to receive more. Gratitude is much more than a verbal expression of thanks. Action expresses more gratitude than speech. Hymns of gratitude to be sung include, "In mercy, in goodness, how great is our King", "Praise we the Lord" and "Gratitude". Concert Group Of Behrldere Tells Plans The executive board mem bers of the Belvidere Com munity Concert association met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd E. Atkins Sunday evening. Evidence at the scene verified Luttrell's account of the accident as debris at the point of impact was located about 5 feet west of the center line in the south-bound lane of traffic. MUSIN" N' MEANDERIN* (.continued from page 1) disappointing as it may be, we will be getting into some nasty weather soon. Please work with your child to see that he or she can (1) tie his-her shoes; (2) take knots out of shoe laces; (3) zip, button and-or snap jackets; (4) fasten or zip boots easily." The second reminder asked Mom to remember that with inclement weather coming on, PLEASE be certain the little one has warm wearing apparel. And there were many more reminders, like being sure to check on the pencil supply periodically; to call school for make-up work if the child is sick three or more days; and to use capital letters for the first LOCAL COLLEGE DISTRICT STATE'S FASTEST GROWING (Continued from page 1) • I construction grant. Thirkield Garrett, housing counseling advisor for the Department of Housing and Urban Development, contacted James P. Hecht, executive director of the McHenry County Housing Authority, concerning the establishment of a coun seling agency for low and moderate income families. Hecht, in turn, contacted Dr. Davis regarding the possibility that such a counseling program might be conducted by the college. Dr. Davis commented he was very pleased with the request and this is the first time since he has been here that someone has turned to the community college for a counseling program. In a letter to Garrett, Dr. Davis stated, "I would hope it would not be too long before the residents of the college district recognize, as you have, that the college might be an appropriate place to center many of the community service activities needed by the residents of the area". Dr. Marvin Lieske, dean of instruction at the college, told the board that counseling for these families has been provided under a community services grant. Counseling and information given allows unemployed people to reevaluate themselves and see if they would be able to qualify for different types of jobs. A short term training program is letter of the youngster's name only on writing papers. We read on, and on, and on, and we were almost sorry we had stopped that windy day and picked up the wayless paper from the sidewalk. On a bright fall day the contents didn't seem so important. This week, with flurries in the air, we read it again and wept for the poor kindergarten teacher who must tie and zip and fasten and unknot for a class of 25 or 30. Take heed, Mom, if it was your letter that ended up on our desk instead of in your hands! K.A.F. also provided in some cases. The following bids for equipment purchases were approved: audio visual equipment from Telemation Midwest, Inc., in the amount of $8,347.50; a band saw and belt- disc sander from Sears Roebuck for $711.92 and twelve welding positioners from Kelsey Welding Supply cor poration for $3,167.52. Last month, the board ap proved the purchase of an eight-passenger station wagon from Colby Motor Sales. When Dr. Davis went to purchase the vehicle, he was informed that a price increase had been granted General Motors and Fear is kin to both envy and a guilty conscience. theprice of the station wagon was $60 higher. Since Colby Motors had been contacted prior to bid approval and had indicated no changes were in order, the board moved to authorize purchase of the vehicle from the second lowest bidder, Ferris Bros., Harvard, who bid a Chevrolet Belair station wagon with roof rack at $3,720. Two other proposed pur chases were tabled indefinitely, purchase of a Diazo Printer at a cost of $3,480 and purchase of a 32K National Cash Register company computer at a cost of $67,339.50. At the present time the college is leasing the computer and will continue to do so instead of purchasing the machine. In other business, the board went on record as being in compliance with the state- recommended policy that physical education for all McHenry County College students be strictly on a voluntary basis for all existing programs.
