* rAVjt 11-PLAINDEALER-WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER29, 1972 PREPARE FOR CONCERT - Members of the Northern Illinois Choral association and the McHenry County college chorus have been practicing for several weeks for the upcoming Christmas concert. The concert will be held Sunday, Dec. 3, at 8 p.m. in St. Thomas the Apostle church in Crystal Lake. Ticket information may be obtained from Diana Vickery at the college. "Christmas Around World" Program At Science Museum The thirty-first annual "Christmas Around the World" program opened Saturday, Nov. 25, at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. The month-long program will include twenty-three giant Christmas trees decorated by various ethnic groups, special choral concerts, theater pageants on how Christmas is celebrated in other countries, and traditional holiday meals from other lands. "We invite the public to join with us in recalling the traditions of Christmas," stated Daniel M. MacMaster, president of the museum. A spectacular forest of twenty-three decorated Christmas trees - encircling the museum's main rotunda -- opened the festive program on Nov. 25 and will remain on display through Jan. 1. Each tree will be decorated dif­ ferently by cooperating nationality groups. Choral concerts by more than eighty Chicago area school apd church choruses, choirs, and glee clubs will be presented three times each day beginning Monday, Nov. 27, through Friday, Dec. 22. Programs will be at 10:30 a.m., noon, and 1 p.m. in the south court of the main rotunda. The theater pageants on Christmas customs will be held from Friday, Dec. 1, through Sunday, Dec. 17, in the museum's main auditorium. The first performance will feature Christmas customs of Greece. Theater activities are at7:30p.m. week days and at 2, 3:30,5, and 7:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. During the same period, different national meals will be served in the museum's dining rooms. For example, a Greek meal may be purchased on the night of the Greek per­ formance. Also during the Christmas festivities, special demon­ strations on how to make a variety of Christmas or­ naments will be presented. Among the demonstrations will be the Japanese art of Origami, the Lithuanian tradition of the special straw and string tree ornaments, and the Hawaiian method of making flowers. Ethnic groups taking part in the "Christmas Around the World" Festival will be: Afro- America, Armenia, Austria, C h i n a , C r o a t i a , Czechoslovakia, Denmark, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Hawaii, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, The Netherlands. Norway, The Philippines, Poland, Puerto Rico, Serbia, Slovenia, Sweden, and the United States. Admission to the museum is free. The museum normally is open from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturdays and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays and holidays but on the nights when ethnic programs are scheduled, the museum will be open until 9 p.m. The museum will be closed on Christmas day. Please remember you must produce your rabies certificate in order to purchase dog tags. The clerk's office hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday at her home and from 7 to 8 p.m. in her office in the municipal building on the second and fourth Thursday of the month. Please no Sundays or holidays. On Saturday, Dec. 2, the police department of Lakemoor will hold a bicycle auction beginning at 4 p.m. in the municipal building. VACATIONERS While vacationing in the British Colony of Caymen Islands, Mr. and Mrs. Doll and daughter, Susie, were cordially invited to join in the celebration of the silver wedding anniversary of Queen Elizabeth of Great Britain and Prince Philip of Edinburgh. The Doll family left O'Hare airport early Saturday mor­ ning, Nov. 18. They were scheduled to return home on Nov. 25. BIRTHDAYS Happy birthday to Billy Cassell on Dec. 2, to Connie Johnson on the third, and to Donald Vornkahl on the fifth. Best wishes to all three of you and may each celebrate many many more.' Jim and Charlene Kelley will be celebrating another year together on Dec. 4, Chuck and Irene Thornton are celebrating on the fifth. ON THE SICK LIST Nancy Hueckstaedt is now home from the hospital and she enjoyed the cards and the plant brought in to her by her friends. Her sister, Kathy Zahn, and Grandma Hueckstaedt acted as baby sitters. A while back James Mentzer was in the hospital for the first time in his life. When his name appeared in the hospital column and in this one he received cards, some from people he knew and some from people he dUki'tknow. His stay in the hospital became much more enjoyable because of this.
