Robert E. Coots, Woodstock, has been promoted to the position of regional supervisor for the Federal Land Bank of St. Louis, according to an announcement by Glenn E. Heitz, president of the bank. Coots replaces Donald J. Nelson, DeKalb, who is retiring as regional supervisor for the bank after more than twenty- one years of service in the Land Bank system. As regional supervisor, Coots will be the bank's represen­ tative to the Federal Land Bank associations of Wood­ stock, Freeport, Morrison, Amboy-Oregon, DeKalb and Joliet which serve farm and rural families in nineteen northern Illinois counties with long-term loans. Coots became employed by the Federal Land Bank of St. Louis on May 7, 1962 and shortly thereafter was elected manager of the Federal Land Bank association of Ottawa. On Sept. 9, 1967, he became manager of the Federal Land Bank association of Woodstock, a position held until Sept. 3,1972 when he began assisting Nelson. Coots graduated from high school at Havana, 111., served two years in the U.S. Array and graduated with a B.S. degree in Agricultural Education from the University of Illinois in 1999. He taught high school vocational agriculture for three years at Toledo and Roodhouse, 111. He attained his M.S. degree in Agriculture in 1963. How Can 1? By Anne Ashley Q. By rubbing the crust with Women May Fly Navy Aircraft A program is now under way to recruit eight women from among officers and officer candidates presently on active duty to enter the Navy Flight Training program, according to an announcement by the Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Elmo R. Zumwalt. This is the latest of a series of initiatives to equalize op­ portunities for women throughout the naval service. The physical and mental qualifications will be essen­ tially the same as those prescribed for men. All those selected will go through basic flight training in propeller and helicopter aircraft. Admiral Zumwalt's an­ nouncement indicated that women are currently restricted by federal law from being assigned to duty in aircraft that are engaged in combat missions. However, they may be scheduled to fly in certain search and rescue missions or in transports.
