Trailing by 18 points after just 8 minutes, the McHenry fivfe closed the gap to 12 by half tiifle and with 4 minutes remaining in the contest had reduced the deficit to 7 points Unfortunately, they couldn't close the gap any further. The short Scots did a good job rebounding as they grabbed 49 to the Redmen's 40. The shooting percentage also im proved as they connected on 37 out of 85 attempts for 43.5 percent, 'their best yet. Wes Witmus came off the bench and connected for 21 points in three quarters to assure himself a starting berth in Thursday's Triton game. Bruce Harbecke led the scoring with 23 points while Larry Lowrey, Glen Bohart and Tom Desmond all scored in double figures. This scrappy Warrior team jumped off to a 11 to 7 lead in the first quarter. Ludwig, Wanta, and Habich kept the Warriors in the game and they led at halftime 25 to 23. During the 3rd period the rebounding began to tell on the Warriors, and the score was tied at 40 all. Try as they might in the 4th period the Warriors couldn't cope with 6'5" Kelley, and 6'6" Kissner and the Warriors went down to defeat. Bentz who was ill with the flu was missed. However, some bright spots in the Warrior attack were two lads who came off the bench to aid the squad. Tim Tonyan was high scorer for the Warriors with 12 points and Dan Camasta added 8 to the cause. On Saturday evening before a large home crowd the Warriors won their first game of the year, defeating the Grant "Bulldogs" by a score of 73 to 55. Again playing without Bentz, the scrappy Warriors outhustled. and out-rebounded County College Scots Lose, But Play Best Game Of Young Season The McHenry County College wrestlers emerged victorious in their first meet of the season. Their opponents were from the College of Lake County. Heavyweight Tom Krepel won by default; Dave Krepel won f in the 190-pound classification. Both the Krepels are from Cary. Others who won their mat ches were Bob Weingart of Mc Henry, 177 pounds; Brad Hanson of Woodstock, 167 Dounds; Steve Lynd of Cary, 150 pounds; Steve Murgatroyde of McHenry, 134 pounds; Dave Davis of Woodstock, 126 pounds, and Bruce Parker of Crystal Lake, 118 pounds. Swimmers Lose 57-37 Af Rblling Meadows By Dick Rabbitt Coach Mike Shanahan's swimmers lost to Rolling .Meadows Saturday afternoon by a score of 57 to 37. However too school records were tied, and two records were broken. The 200 yd., Individual Medley Relay with Scott Topp, JonSek, Kevin Weiss, and Jack White tied the school record of 1:53:5. Scott Topp tied his 100 yd., backstroke record of 59.5. Kevin Weiss broke two records, winning the 200 yd., Individual Medley breaking his own record with a time of 2:25.8. Kevin also broke his own 100 yd., Butterfly with a record time of 1:03:2. Jon Sek was the only other Warrior winner taking the 100 yd., breaststroke. Trailing 19 to 16 at the quarter, the Warriors really went to town in the second period scoring 26 points and led at the half 42 to 33. In the second half it was all McHenry, although at times it seemed to be more of a free throwing contest than a basketball game. The officials called a total of 54 fouls during the contest. Roger Ludwig was the high scorer with 26 points on 8 baskets and 10 free throws. Another pleasant surprise for Coach Ludwig was the play of Tom Knaack. Tom had the hot hand in the first half, and finished up with 16 points. His 15 ft., jump shots were a thing of beauty. With the overall improvement of the team, and with the return of the "Big Fellow", this Warrior squad could cause a lot of teams a lot of trouble during the rest of the season. On Friday nite the Sophs led Barrington for three quarters before running out of gas and going down to a 48 to 42 defeat. The bigger Bronco squad simply wore down the little Warriors on the boards. Tom Stark led McHenry with 22 points before fouling out in the 4th quarter. On Saturday nite the Sophs almost blew it. Leading 33 to 25 going into the last quarter, Barrington began to surge. The event was held at Champaign Saturday, Dec. 2. Weingart is a member of the McHenry County College wrestling team.
