Youth guidance and the strengthening of family Christian life are the goals of the Life Direction program scheduled for Dec. 10, 11 and 12. The program is an up-dated combination of vocation week and parish mission. Father D.E. Tranel, pastor of Christ the King, explained that the purpose of the program is to make a concentrated effort at helping young Christian people clarify their values and to help them see what directions they can go with their lives. Some of the work will deal with parents and adults to help them see what values are important to hand on and to look at ways of communicating them to their children. It is an exciting and FATHER BERNARD ROONEY promising effort and will be part of a continuing effort for some and a new beginning for others. The Life Direction program is under the guidance of Fr. Robert Koley, C.S.S.R., and Fr. Bernard Rooney, C.S.S.R., two Wisconsin-based Redemptorist priests who are involved in this type of work in parishes around the country. At the Saturday evening and Sunday Masses last weekend, Father Rooney spoke to the parishioners, inviting them to take part in this spiritual renewal program. In addition to explaining the purpose of the mission, he told the people that he and Father Koley, during their stay in Wonder Lake, would also be visiting the homes of the sick and infirm. Father Rooney encouraged any parishioners who would like to have a priest call on them in their home to please phone the rectory. To prepare for this spiritual renewal program, the ushers passed out miniature Bibles during the Masses and Father Rooney asked the people to take five minutes a day this week to read and discuss one of Saint Paul's letters, a way of introducing themselves and their families to the Bible. He also invited everyone to help themselves to pamphlets and Psalm books placed in the front of the church to take home and read, in preparation for the mission. The schedule of the evening meets of the Life Direction program are as follows: Sunday, Dec. 10, 7:30 to 9 p.m. for parents -- "What's important to hand on?" to clarify what parents see as most important to hand on to their children.
