The long black stockings, lpng- legged underwear and the high- toped shoes, whether laced or but toned, caused me to be late more times than any other thing I can remember. I also remember those big blossom-leg, black satin bloom ers. They were ugly, but they helped the underwear-covered legs. I could never get the under wear leg wrapped neatly around my ankle and the black stocking up smoothly over it. The under wear leg always sliped out of my grasp and ended up a lumpy bunch around the calf of my l«g. Out of desperation, I'd dash off to school with lumpy legs, stop around the corner, yank down my stocking, stuff the underwear up under the elastic of the bloomer leg, yank up the stocking and dash off to school. We may have looked knock-kneed, but at least we had slim ankles! £ (S»nd contribution! t* tfiit Mtomn HtJJi* -jifj OM Timer, tax *99. frwikfert. Ky. 40401.) But glass drapes often left something to be desired fashion-wise and there were problems with abrasion and stiffness. This is no longer true. Thanks to some new developments, glass draperies are more fashion-con scious than they used to be. For example, there is a new combina tion glass and modacrylic fabric that reduces the abrasion factor and improves drapability, accord ing to its manufacturer. Intro duced at a price "a little higher than all-glass and lower than all- modacrylic," it may make glass draperies easier to handle. Improved glass yarn dye tech niques mean brighter, more styl ish colors are now available. Fash ionable plaids and checks were introduced recently. Knit fabrics mean glass draperies can be made in a variety of open-work pat terns, Fjor,, example, .Ash-net and checkerboard-look styles are al ready being developed.
