They have many Christmas ADULT GIRL SCOUT LUNCHEON HELD Five women from Holiday Hills last week on Dec. 6, had a delightful time at the annual Girl Scout Christmas luncheon, this year held at Martinetti's in Crystal Lake. A delicious lunch of Rock Cornish hens, with all the trimmings was served. Following lunch, and several announcements, five and ten year pins were presented to those women who had either earned one by being a Scout as a child, and adult leader or committee mother, or a registered adult Girl Scout for a total of five or ten years. Five year pins were earned by Mrs. Pat Hughes, Mrs. Marge Connell, and Mrs. Linda Thietje, and ten year pins were earned by Mrs. Vi Abbink and Mrs. Bonnie Kellen. Following the presentation of awards, a very interesting fashion show was presented by a local McHenry women's shop. Among the fashions being shown, were many antique dresses dating all the way back to the 1890's. It was interesting to note the style change in some things, but yet in others, it was hard to tell whether the outfit was an antique, or something you could buy in the stores today. The afternoon was ended with the singing of ma^y favorite Christmas carols. Those women from Holiday Hills who attended were Vicki Bartkus, who also won one of the table decorations, Marge Connell, Pat Hughes, Bonnie Kellen, and Linda Thietje. HHPOA CHRISTMAS DANCE ASUCCESS Despite the snowstorm Saturday afternoon and evening, last week's Christmas dance held on Dec. 9, was a huge success and just plain fun. He and his committee must have worked quite hard. The Yacht Club Room of the Crystal Bowl was filled to capacity, and everyone there seemed to be having a great time. John Kessler also sang and en tertained for several songs, and everyone enjoyed that. WINNERS IN TURKEYSHOOT Several weeks ago, two members of bowling teams bowling in the Friday Might Mixed League over at Crystal Bowl had quite a night. It was the night of the turkey shoot - one member on a team bowling the most pins over his or her average was to win a turkey for the holidays. Two residents did quite well. Winning turkeys were • Bob Kellen and Joan Cornwell. Congratulations to them on a fine night of bowling. GOOD LUCK, JOHN Farewell and the best of luck is wished to John VanDuyn, son of Josephine and John Van Duyn of Park Terrace, as he leaves Holiday Hills following a twenty-five day furlough bound for an eight month tour of duty in Germany. Johnny recently completed an eight week course at Fort Ord, Calif., where he was trained to prepare and serve a wide variety of foods in large and small quantities. He was also trained in baking, the principles of meat cutting, field kitchen operations and service of an Army mess hall. He entered the Army in June and completed his basic training at Fort Dix, N.J. He was a 1970 graduate of McHenry high school. Although he will be a long way from home, he does receive the Plaindealer regularly and we shall try our best to keep him posted on the happenings in our subdivision so that Holiday Hills will not seem too far away. BEGINNERS BAND CONCERT Three young musicians from Holiday Hills put forth their best efforts on Thursday night Dec. 7, when they participated in the "Beginning Band Con cert" held at the Junior high school gym and the results were very rewarding. Chrissy Connell and Kurt Roth playing cornets and Laura Kottke on the clarinet proved they have much musical talent. Neither of these three have had previous band experience and in just ten weeks have learned the use of their instruments and how to play quite a selection of musical numbers. Much credit must also be given to Carl Kohrt, director as to be able to take a group of youngsters with little or no previous music instruction and in so short a time be able to come up with such an enjoyable band concert takes much time and patience. Keep up the good work kids, next year it's the cadet band, then the concert band and into your high school days the fun and excitement of playing in the band and parades can be yours.
