It's Hard To Imagine How Game Turned For McHenry County Cagers PAGE 9-PLAINDEALER-WEDNESDAY^ECEMBE^0^972 Internal Warriors Defeat Economic Questions Libertyville 62-55 stabilization Answers a It's hard to imagine a team leading 33 to 32 with ten seconds left in the first half and then losing by a score of 88 to 59, but that is just what MCC's basketball team did Wed nesday night. The Scots found the range early in the game as Wes Witmus dumped in 2 field goals and Tom Desmond 1, to jump in front and maintain a 5 to 10 point lead the entire first half. Harper tied the score and then made a free throw with 10 seconds left to take a 34 to 33 lead at intermission. Harper made their first four shots in the second half to take a 10 point lead and for all practical purposes the game was over. The Scots connected on only 8 of 34 attempts the last half and Harper pulled away as substitutes from both teams scrambled the last 5 or 6 minutes. Only 3 Scots scored in double figures as Wes Witmus collected 11 and Bruce Har- beckeand Glen Bohart made 10 each. Next contest for the Scots will be Saturday, Dec. 16 when they travel to Waukegan to battle College of Lake County in the armory. Playing the finest game of his career, this young lad not only scored the tying basket that sent the game into overtime, but made the 2 baskets in the overtime that enabled the Warriors to win the game. The play of Mr. Outside (Ludwig) and Mr. Inside (Mark Bentz), who scored 29 pts., made the 27 pts., scored by Tim Mieure outstanding Sequoit guard futile. The Warriors jumped off to an early 16 to 8 lead and held on to an 18 to 12 margin at the quarter. Then a cold spell, plus a lapse in the defense and with 4:36 remaining in the second quarter the Sequoits went ahead 26 to 24. and increased their margin to a halftime lead 37 to 33. McHenry couldn't close the gap during the third quarter and trailed 55 to 50 going into the final quarter. With Ludwig hitting from the outside, and Bentz underneath the Warriors closed the gap 72 to 70 when Mieure fouled out with 1:25 remaining in the game. Trailing 74 to 72 with 5 seconds to go, and Schroeder of Antioch at the foul line, it seemed hopeless for the local squad. Schroeder missed, Bentz took the rebound, passed to Ludwig who drove the length of the court and scored as the horn sounded ending the game. With 1:42 remaining in the overtime, Ludwig hit a 15 footer sending the Warriors ahead. Guowski's two freethrows tied it up with 1:31 left on the clock. Freshmen Wrestlers Enter Grayslake Tourney This Week McHenry's freshmen wrestlers will be at Grayslake this week for the second annual Grayslake Freshmen wrestling tournament. Where:Grayslake high school When: Wed., Dec. 20 and Thurs., Dec. 21 Time: Session 1, Dec. 20,6:30 p.m. Preliminaries Session II, Dec. 21, 1 p.m. Semi-Finals; 2 p.m. wrestle backs SesL'on III, Dec. 21, 6 p.m. Finals Andres put Antioch ahead with a minute remaining 77 to 76. With 23 seconds remaining Ludwig hit another 15 footer, and that was the old ball game. It was a jubilant Warrior locker room after the game, and rightly so. Winning a tough game at Libertyville on Friday night, and coming back to defeat a good Antioch club on Saturday may be the tonic the team needs for the future. The Warriors played good ball both games. Bentz was a tiger on the boards plus his sewing. Ludwig has the confidence he was lacking early1 in the season. Tom Knaack is improving with each game. His jump shots are a thing of beauty. Bobby Habich seems to get the clutch rebound or basket when needed. Although Randy Mauch doesn't score much, his assignment is to guard the opponent's high scorer, and Randy is doing a fine job. Coach Ludwig can also get help from his bench. Wanta, Torfyan, and Camasta are doing a splendid job when they enter the game. I think the Warriors are on their way. They know how to win the'tough ones. Let's keep it up and tame those Tigers Friday night. BOXSCORES Frosh Grapplers Lose To Libertyville McHenry's young wrestlers lost to Libertyville 34 to 28. (RT. 31) McHenry 385-7747 By Dick Rabbitt Coach Ken Ludwig's Warriors finally put it all together Friday nite, and came home from Libertyville with a 62 to 55 victory. It was the first conference win and second win of the season for the Warriors. Offensive rebounding and dutch foul shooting paved the way for the Warrior victory. Big Mark Bentz completely dominated the offensive boards, enabling the Warriors to get that second and third attempt at the basket. Trailing 14 to 12 at the quarter, the Warriors began their move. With Bentz, Knaack and Ludwig all hitting the Warriors jumped out to a 30 to 24 half- time lead. They added one point to the lead in the third quarter and led going into the final 8 minutes 41 to 34. Randy Mauch did a fine job in guarding Wildcat star Bobby Leon up to this time. Randy tired and Leon managed to pop in 15 pts., in the last quarter, but to no avail as the Warriors walked off with a 62 to 55 victory. The Warriors hit cm 25 of 53 attempts for a 47 percent, while Libertyville managed 23 for 54 for a 43 percent. Another pleasant surprise for Coach Ludwig was the play of Roger Wanta. Roger, shaking off the effects of the flu bug, to the Warrior cause. The column answers questions most frequently asked about wages and prices. Q. I filed a complaint against a local department store which I thought had raised prices illegally. Now they've cut off my credit. Isn't this kind of retaliatory action forbidden by the price regulations? A. Yes. A new Price com mission regulation prohibits retaliatory action by a seller against a buyer who exercises any of his rights under th$ Economic Stabilization act or regulations. The rent guidelines prohibit similar actions by landlords. If any firm has taken retaliatory action against you for filing a complaint, you may call your local Internal Revenue office for help. Q. What penalties can the IRS impose upon landlords found to be violating rent controls? A. The Internal Revenue Service can order landlords in violation of the rent regulations to restore overpayments to tenants, rollback rents to legal limits and pay a penalty of an amount double an overcharged rent. Cases in which flagrant and willful violation of rent rules occur will be turned over to the Justice department for ' litigation and possible prosecution. For information on how you can help the IRS enforce rent controls, see IRS Publication S- 3026, "How to Spot a Rent Violation." It's available free by dropping a postcard to your Internal Revenue district of fice. Q. My county recently reduced property taxes. Does this mean that my landlord must reduce my rent? A. Yes. If your local real estate taxes go down, your rent must be reduced too. Q. How does an employer treat new employees with respect to the 5.5 percent general wage and salary ceiling? A. Basically, the new em ployee is subject to the same guidelines as the old employee if the mob requirements are similar. The 5.5 percent standard applies to the ap propriate employee unit to which he belongs. Q. If a Tier I subsidiary firm raises prices without prenotifying, does this violation have any effect on the parent corporation? A. Yes. Neither the parent corporation nor any of its subsidiaries may implement any further price increases until the particular sub sidiary's price increase has been properly prenotified and approved by the Price Commission and the Com mission has approved the parent's other increases. The subsidiary's failure to prenotify before raising prices also freezes increases previously granted to the parent cor poration and its other sub sidiaries that have not yet been instituted. Q. When does the IRS require a wage-price inquiry to be in writing? A. The IRS will ask a caller to put his oral inquiry in writing only when he desires a written reply or if the request is so complex that it would not be feasible to handle it by phone. There is no administrative appeal procedure if a person feels the answer he receives to an oral inquiry is un satisfactory. Except for rent violations, a person is not required to submit a complaint of an illegal increase in writing. Lover's Light?
