PAGE 7-PLAINDEALER-FRIDAY, DECEMBER 22, 1972 Twice Told Tales Pictured above is the nicest mother six puppies could ever have. She surprised a family in McHenry by presenting them with puppies in their doghouse. (Also shocked the dog already living there!) A Helping Paws' volunteer came to their rescue and has the family in a heated barn and very comfortable. Mother is very good natured, friendly and obedient so pups should be very special. Mother and puppies will be looking for a home in about six weeks. You may reserve now by calling 312-658-7666 or 815-459-0511. HELPING PAWS By Carol Wilyat Winter has come early this year and along with it is the bitter cold which can cause frostbite. Be sure to take special precaution with the animals. Don't allow them outside for any length of time if they are used to being indoors. The dogs living outside must have proper shelter according to the state law. A rubber flap nailed at the top keeps the snow from blowing inside and still allows the dog to have easy access to the house. Layers of newspapers and straw bedding is good insulation from the cold ground. Don't think that just because your dog has a heavy coat and is "used to being outside" that he does not have to have shelter -- that is not true. Your animal depends on you - don't let him down. The Helping Paws office will be closed Christmas day. We will have regular hours Tuesday through Friday from 10-12 and 1-3. Our telephone number is 815-459 2641. Please call if you have lost or found an animal and we will try our best to help you. Donations may be sent to Helping Paws, P.O. Box 263, Algonquin, Illinois, 60102. The first baby of the new year born at McHenry hospital i THINK ABOUT IT! By BOB JUSTEN "Christmas isn't what it used to be." The saying is both true, and false, depending on area of age. A young tot would not say it because * ime has ntf. yet blurred a memory. Christmas complaints lose gloom in the gay glitter of gifts when children's gai ety brings forth adult geniality. There is no change (or should not be) in the gladness of person to person relationships among families and friends that helps us forget the faults of time and people. The mellowed sentiment of treasured memories is a special gift at Christmas. For some, the cherished memory may be a baby touching and toying, perhaps breaking an ornament on the first Christmas tree. Or it may be the memory of a doll being loved and mothered on Christmas, perhaps being sassed on New Years. Yes, Christmas is a special time for special memories for all of us. As we celebrate the birth of the Baby born in a Bethlehem manager, let us re member He gave us many gifts, including the blessing of happy memories.
