The McHenry Boy Scout troop will share in a nation wide observance of Boy Scout Week, Feb. 6, through 12, marking the thirty-eighth anniversary of the founding of the movement in America. Walter Winn, of Richmond, long a leader in the Pure Milk association was reelected director of District six at the annual meeting. Miss Betty Kramer en­ tertained employees of the local telephone office at a prenuptial shower held Jan. 21, at her home, honoring Miss Elaine Schaefer, a bride in the near future. A mock wedding was presented by six of the girls, attired in gowns fashionable at the turn of the century. Veternarians from every part of Illinois are joining in the sixty-sixth annual convention of the Illinois State Veterinary Medical association being held Jan. 28-30 in Peoria. Total attendance is expected to ex­ ceed 500. Dr. Howard S. Fike of McHenry is a member. A Founders Day party will be held Feb. 7 at the Lily Lake schoolhouse sponsored by the P.T.A. of that community. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Jan. 31, 1963) N.P. Miss Dom 227, a junior calf shown by Northern Pump company of McHenry, was selected as the champion over all females in Register of Merit Hereford judging at the National Western Stock Show, Denver, Colo. Since winning in Denver, Miss Dom has been declared champion at the Amarillo, Tex., stock show. The many friends of John Dreymiller, 73, were saddened to learn of his death, Jan. 28, in Hines hospital where he had been a patient for several weeks. Three M.C.H.S. students have been selected from among six candidates to appear on the television program, "It's Academic." They are Bert Kissling, Richard Johnson and Donald Cameron. What may have been McHenry's coldest tem­ perature reading in history, a minus 26 degrees, was recorded at the home of 15 year old Glen Olsen on Front street last week Wednesday. The small cemetery on Rt. 120, known as Ostend, may receive only slight attention from the hundreds of motorists who pass it daily, but it is believed to be the first white burying ground and came into being when the wife of Apollos Thompson passed away shortly after her arrival in Illinois from Ohio. The John Wirtz family of Elgin and Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Wirtz were guests in the Joe E. Freund home in Johnsburg Sunday where they celebrated the fourth birthday of Ray, son of the John Wirtzes.
