MAY'S REXALL DRUGS 4400 West Route 120 AUTO LICENSE PLATES By Dick Rabbitt The Warriors of McHenry high school ran their con ference record to 3 and 3 by defeating the North Chicago 'Warhawks" 62 to 48 here Friday night. The win put McHenry in a three way tie for second along with North Chicago and Woodstock. The game started off slow with neither team being able to score until at the 5:00 minute mark Bentz put in a layup for the locals. The remaining 5 minutes were played with each team exchanging the lead until Henderson and Merritt baskets put the Warhawks ahead 12 to 8 at the quarter. The Warriors struggled back, among many turnovers and with Habich, Ludwig and Bentz all scoring grabbed a 23 to 22 halftime lead. It was a poorly played first half. Shooting on both teams was erratic. McHenry shot 19 percent, one better than the Warhawks. Whatever Coach Ludwig said during halftime accomplished Warriors. Let's take a good results. The Warriors came delegation of fans to Woodstock storming out in the third periodf Friday night and root the and ran off 11 straight points to cWarru>rs on to another victory, a 34 to 22 lead. This was the vV BOX SCORES turning point in the game. They added 11 more during the period and led at the three quarter mark 45 to 33. During the final 8 minutes the locals managed to outscore North Chicago 17 to 15 and win going away 62 to 48. In talking with Coach Ludwig after the game we asked. "What changes did you make at halftime." He replied, "We told the boys to keep them ®ff the offensive boards". The strategy worked, as the Warhawks were shut out on offensive rebounding the second half. It was a nice win for the Warriors. It kept them in the thick of the conference race, only two games behind league leading Barrington. They tied Roger up on this shot but Roger led both teams in scoring as he totaled 23 points in the McHenry 62-48 victory over North Chicago. (STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD) High Humbles County Scots 100-82 McHenry County College sent their basketball team to Freeport Tuesday, Jan. 16, in hopes of finding their first victory of the season. The team put together a fine offensive showing as Bruce Harbecke, We don't rate as a fisherman, but put a choice fish on a platter in front of us and we tuck in our napkin and get right at it. Glen Borhart and Wes Witmus contributed 20, 20 and 19 points respectively to an 82 point production. Unfortunately the defense could not do its job and Highland rang up a total of 100 points. The Freeport squad got the first basket of the contest and never relinquished the lead. They had pulled away 51 to 36 by half time and the rest of the game found the two squads just about trading basket for basket. Highland outrebounded McHenry 41 to 36 and outshot the Scots 56 percent to 51 percent from the field as both teams showed amazing ac curacy. Although it appears that Tim Tonyan, 32, is fouling the North Chicago ball handler, Tim was found not guilty. Tim, along with Warrior Mark Bentz, double teamed their op ponent with such pressure that the Warhawk lost his balance and a traveling penalty was called a&ainst him. (STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD) We watched and watched, but couldn't find the Roland Herrmanns on the TV report of the presidential inauguration. They were there! Kept looking for a shiny reflection, then gave up with the thought that Rollie wore a wig for the occasion. Couldn't make the Warrior basketball game with North Chicago Friday night, but saw the home boys beat Kaneland 90 to 70 on Saturday night. Kaneland had some towering players who may develop. They took a lead on the shorter EARL WALSH So I Hear SPORTS EDITORJ Warriors at the start. Then came the sharpshooting. The crowd was small, but heard many expressions that our school is too generous with the heat in the gym. It's an old complaint. We swear there were more cars in the parking lot than there wfere people in the gym. Where are all of our basketball fans? We have a winning team, a beautiful gym, top coaches, a good band, and snappy cheerleaders. Ybu're one of a kind How much life insurance do you need? It depends. On your age and condition. On your family--the kind of living you want them to have. And on what you own and what you owe. The point is that your life insurance needs are different from those of anybody else. So life insurance is not something for which you can self-service shop. You need to visit with somebody who knows what he's talking about-- and is interested in you and your needs. That's your Country Life Agent. Country Life--one of the Country Companies. We're a little different than most insurance people. Coach Ludwig used everybody on the bench in the lineup except his able Assistant Coach, Elvin Partenheimer. The visitors gave our reserves all they could handle when their shorter, faster men were trotted onto the floor. But, Coach Ludwig could have had 100 points if he chose to get them. We like him better for giving all of his reserves a chance to play. Thov technics at the Thavisiting coach drew two fiical fouls for his hollering officials. One official offered to give him his whistle if he wanted to take over. It added a little life to the game. Imagine -- 160 points scored in one high school game! We hardly scored that many all season when we played in the little Landmark gym. With Kitty at the controls, you should have heard the melodius music in Bimbo's Saturday night. The Cubs and the Sox in nineteen seventy three so come on fellows answer my plea please, please, please let it be, let it be. An Ardent Baseball fan An Ardent S.I.H. fan By Dick Rabbitt Before a disappointing small Saturday night crowd the McHenry Warriors won their 9th game of the season over Kaneland 90 to 70. It was the best offensive output of the season for the McHenry squad. All 5 starters were in double figures for the Warriors. It was sweet revenge, as the "Knights" had defeated the Warriors earlier in the season 56 to 54. The Warriors got off to a slow start again, and trailed 18 to 16 at the end of the first quarter. Midway in the 2nd period McHenry led 24 to 21. Then Tommy Knaack and Ben Himpelmann started scorching the nets and the Warriors raced to a 39-30 halftime lead. Once again, as it was on Friday night, the third quarter was the turning point. The Warrior steamroller really went into action. They rolled up 12 straight points, hitting 5 out of 6 from the field, and at the 5 minute mark were ahead 51 to 30. With 2:30 remaining it was 60 to 34. In this short period of time the Warriors outscored the Knights 21 to 4. Coach Ludwig then went to the bench, giving the regulars a well deserved rest. The Warriors led 66 to 42 going into the final quarter. Midway in the 4th period the Knights began to close the gap 70 to 55, but the Warriors hung on for an easy 90 to 70 win. It was a nice relaxing win for the team and coaches. Coach Ludwig cleared his bench so that all the boys got to play. After the constant pressure of conference games, and a tough game on Friday night it was most welcome. The Warriors shot a whooping 50 percent hitting on 38 out of 76. The Knights were 20 out of 66 for a 32 percent. The Warrior record now stands at 9 wins and 6 defeats.
