Hanahan The League of Women Voters of Woodstock-McHenry spent over two and one half hours recently in the Woodstock home of Mary Witt, vice-president interviewing State Rep. Thomas Hanahan. Asking the questions was June Girard, president, assisted by Carol Lincoln, Lee Lockhart, Lorraine Weisz and the hostess, Mary Witt. Questions were asked on issues of the League concerning specific positions in nine areas: Constitutional Implementation, Selection Election of Judges, Election Laws, Environmental Quality, Land Use, Local Government, Corrections, Human Resources and Civil Rights and Liberties. Mr Hanahan was familiar with most of tbe League positions and was in agreement with it on many. He explained his positions where they dif fered in part or whole and was most cooperative and congenial. "In the area of EPA, I'm going to watch every step of the way that they don't dilute it," said Rep. Hanahan and then went on to further explain the intricacies of his position. He also encouraged the League to work in the area of Election Laws reforms^ . Mr. Hanahan said he is very conscious of the need for funds to implement many proposed programs and he feels that it is hypocritical to support a program and then vote against funds necessary to the success of such program. All questions were answered fully. The League often interviews public officials to acquaint them with League positions and to consider tfteir positions where they differ and offer support when there is agreement. The League policy is such that it never supports an individual but takes positions on issues and will seek to gain support from elected officials regardless of party affiliations. Members, and often guests, may participate in League activities; . It depends on your dreams. Glaucoma No Longer Feared In Early Stage Many individuals are overwhelmed with fear when they first learn that they have simple chronic glaucoma because they assume that they will lose their sight. On the contrary, the fact that the disease has been detected while the person still has adequate vision means that the condition _ can be kept under control and complications avoided in almost all cases. This is just one example of the many misconceptions regarding glaucoma. Many believe that glaucoma is a form of cancer or that it is an in fection which is contagious and can be passed on to others. Some think it is inherited. Most believe that blindness is inevitable. It is true that undetected glaucoma is one of the greatest single causes of blindness in the United States but the key word here is undetected. Once the disease is discovered the outlook is now very hopeful because further loss of sight can be controlled in most cases. Glaucoma is a condition in which there is increased pressure of the fluid within the eyeball. Instruments called tonometers are used to test the fluid pressure in the eye, quickly and painlessly. These tests are part of every complete eye examination. Once the increased pressure within the eyeball is recognized, drops can usually be used to relieve that pressure. When medication is not sufficient to keep the fluid at a normal level, a simple surgical procedure is used with excellent results. An opening is made to release the fluid and keep it from accumulating again in greater than normal amounts. It is possible for a person to have simple, chronic glaucoma for a long time without suspecting that he is gradually losing his side vision. Because central vision is the last to go, victims of this eye disease are often astonished to find that they have glaucoma. The disease progresses slowly and painlessly, producing symptoms that are so vague that they go un noticed. Among these may be blurred side vision, "halos" or colored rings around lights, frequent changes of glasses IN THE CIRCUIT COURT OF THE 19TH JUDICIAL CIRCUIT, McHENRY COUNTY, ILLINOIS PROBATE DIVISION ESTATE OF Clarence R. Tax Facts Fewer Illinois Taxpayers Have to File Tax Returns Fewer taxpayers will have to file a tax return this year, RogerC.
