A Cut some cheesecloth to the desired size of dusting cloths, and then prepare a mixture consisting of one pint of very hot water, 14 cup of lemon oil Press in four or five pieces of your cheesecloth, squeeze dry, and hang up to dry. Incidentally, it's a good and practical idea to hem your dusting cloths. Q. How can 1 brighten the bricks around my fireplace? A. By scrubbing them with hot soapsuds, after which apply a coat of hot linseed oil with a paint brush. Saturate a cloth with vinegar to clean the brick tiling around thl* fireplace, and if necessary, repeat. Q. When cutting a meringue pie. how can I prevent the meringue from sticking to the knife? A. By first dipping the knife into cold water. Q. How can I wash or clean some dacron polyester fiber- filled pillows? A. Hand-wash them in lukewarm water with soap or non-sudsing detergent. Com press the pillow repeatedly, but avoid twisting. Scrub the ticking with a soft brush. Rinse in clear water, pressing out the water. Air-dry, or put through the washing-machine spin cycle and dry in a dryer. Q. How can I avoid any possibility of raveling at the edges when unrolling friction tape? A. If an "X" is cut lightly with a razor blade on both sides of the roll, this will sever any string stuck together along the edges and you'll have no raveling. Q. How can I assure myself of the instant lighting of the candles on a birthday cake? A. You can do this by ap plying a drop of fingernail polish to the tip of each candle wick. Q. How can I remove some a single one of the current membership carries a ranking with the U.S. Chess federation. Chess rankings, from highest to lowest, are grandmaster, master, expert, and classes A. Daniel will appear on the Woodstock Opera House stage Thursday, Feb. 15, at 10 a.m., as part of the Woodstock Fine Arts association's Creative Living Series programs. Daniel studied pantomime, the oldest and purest of man's arts, under Marcel Marceau, the acknowledged world master, at his School of Mime in Paris. He has since delighted and intrigued his audiences from Paris cafes to the American stage. I : candle grease that was dropped onto one of my good carpets" A. Scrape the wax off with a spoon, rather than with a knife which might possibly injure the fibers. Press the spot through a blotter with a warm iron to absorb the remaining grease. Repeat until the grease has been removed, shifting the blotter from time to time to keep a clean surface over the spot. Q How can I make the steps on my stepladder non-slip, thus reducing the danger of ac cidents? A. Apply a fresh coat of paint or varnish to the steps and, while the paint is still tacky, sprinkle some coarse sand or sawdust over the steps. This will provide the non-slip traction you're seekine.
