Holmberg, left, state president of the Illinois Federation of Woman's Clubs, and Mrs. Lambert W. Miller, vice-president of the northern region, to last week's meeting of Whispering Oaks Woman's club. STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD It comes t' me mind, as I'm a sittin' here in me rockin' chair, how much a society's affected by the culture it pursues. Each society reflects its culture in th' offspring. One, high in cultural standards, produces a posterity wi' ability fer advancin' th' human mind toward enlightenment, an' development t' higher poten tials. Lower cultural standards affect society in jest th' op posite direction. 'We're aware that a child's mind c'n be molded durin' the first years, th' impressionable years, affectin' his thinkin' pow'r fer a lifetime. Greater stress on the finer things, which only man is capable o' producin', is needed. Some, so- called, educators treat th' arts so lightly, as t' eliminate 'em from th' curriculum. In days past, seemed like ev'ry youngun on th' block took music lessons, an' from thence came some o' the artists we enjoy. It takes parents wi' high ideals t' produce offspring wi' ambition t' reach fer higher pinnacles o' human ac complishment. A parent needs t' probe the depth o' the little mind, a givin' it a chance t' experience many things, o' educational nature, in order t' find its best potential an' develop it. Jist a lettin' young childern grow up, t' th' best o' their meager ability, ain't a doin' justice t' 'em. When a person takes on th' responsibility o' parenthood, he automatically commits himself t' the welfare, up-bringin' an' development o' a human bein'. What th' parent does wi' that young mind, is a great reward, 4r sad disappointment, t' both the parent an' the child. Developin' the fine arts in a body brings out the best in him. Would that we could have proper education fer prosepective parents. I know young folk who don't ha' the proper knowledge o' how t' live, 'emselves, an' expectin' a family t' raise, wi'out any idee o' how t' go about it. Common educational facilities ha' changed, so much, State Woman's Club President Visits McHenry Mrs. V.V. Holmberg, president of the Illinois Federation of Woman's Clubs, and Mrs. Lambert W. Miller, vice-president, Northern Region, were honorary guest speakers at the meeting of the Whispering Oaks Woman's club in order to acquaint the members with the purposes and advantages of the General Federation of Woman's Clubs.
