Tips For The Homemaker According to a recent study, the average youngster will watch 16,000 hours of television in the years between pre-school and high school graduation. Here are some suggestions to help your child be master rather than slave of the television: 1. Make sure your youngster spends time each day in active play - outside or with his toys. Plan some time for reading, drawing and creative ac tivities, as well as homework. Such a schedule may mean limiting TV viewing time. If so, discuss the matter with your child, and decide on the limits together. 2. Help your child decide which programs are worth watching. Do not deny him the privilege of his funny favorites, but include some educational programs as well. 3. Limit or forbid violent or adult programs. Recognize the relationship between night mares and frightening TV programs. Roughhouse ac tivities may be linked with violent programs. 4. Break you own TV habit. Watch programs you like, but don't hesitate to turn off the set and read, play games or just talk. She is eighty years old but very independent and seems to be in fairly good health. She is active and still drives her car. Our problem is this: She lives alone and refuses to have anyone stay with her, permanently, altho* she en joys visitors for a day or so. My sister and I are wor ried all of the time for fear she may slip and break a bone and not be able to get to the telephone or she may have a stroke and no one will know about it. Do you think we should in sist on her going to a nursing home where she will be able to have someone on call at anytime of the day or night9 What do you think of this0 Daughters--N.C. Answer: As long as your mother is humorous orator, and Chris Strong. Tickets are available from AFS members. A buffet dinner will be served at 9:30 able to get about and drive I think she should be the judge of what she wishes to do. Some people are senile at seventy and others are active and sensible in their nineties. As for being on call day or night, I assume that you or your sister are close enough to lend assis tance to her and, if she is not able to get to a tele phone, she would not be able to call someone in the nurs ing home unless she was in the infirmary of such a home. Check up on your mother every day or several times a day if you wish. That will cause less trouble than if she were in a home. Louisa. Address letters: Louisa, Box 532.
