TheValachi TAKING AIM, Ben Himpelmann has no trouble getting his shot off as Woodstock's Bo Palenske finds himself unprepared to block the ball. Himpelmann's on-target shooting kept the Warriors in the game during the poor first half. Himpelmann was second high scorer for the winning Warriors with 16 points. Ludwig and Bentz tallied 17 and 14. Tonight the Warriors return to Antioch and a win would give them their second regional title in two years. The Warriors will battle the Sequoits of Antioch. Antioch won over the Grant Bulldogs Wednesday evening. Now that her California team walloped the Notre Dame footballers, she is turning her interest to baseball and none other than the Dodgers. McHenry's young Warriors stunned Woodstock last Friday evening as all fifteen players played in both halves, in order to rest the starters for Satur day's game. The first string ran up a 21 to 7 1st quarter lead. During the second period the offense was still clicking and at halftime it was 35 to 14. McHenry was led by stellar performances from Steve Koerber and Terry Reilly. Kerber hit on 9 of 10 from the field, and 7 out of 8 from the free throw line. Reilly was 6 out'bf 11, and 4 for 4 from the charity line. The freshmen ended regular season play with a 12 and 6 record. Brian Lund led the locals with 18 pts. He teamed with Steve Koerber to control the boards against the Saints. The Warriors play Wheaton Central on Monday evening, and the winner will advance to the finals to be played Thur sday. For gosh sakes, we're setting our sights on St. Patrick's Day!. Met the Petie Schaefers and the Ben Fretts. You know, the Florida Fretts with the dizzy birds in the back yard. Ben was showing a hat that is 7 years old. That's nothing. We have an old blue suit that is much older--in fact, so old that John Looze says" the Salvation Army would reject it. _ Rates In the United Spates, three per sons out of 100,0081 live to be 100. In the Soviet republic of Azae baijan, the rate is 63)per 100,000. By Dick Rabbitt The Barrington Broncos won the North Suburban Conference crown this past season with a record of 11 wins and three losses. They edged the Zee Bees from Zion who finished with a 10 and 4 record. Our McHenry Warriors were in sole possession of third place with a 9 and 5 record. Looking at the point spread you will find that the conference was very tight this past season. The margin of victory was not too great in most of the games. Rick Unruh of Dundee edged Mark Heyse of Barrington for the scoring lead by a slim total of 265 to 264. I l l i no is 60050 Warriors Defeat Woodstock 59-48 To Go Into Finals Of Antioch Regional Tournament By Dick Rabbitt The McHenry Warriors advanced to the finals of the Antioch regional tournament by defeating Woodstock 59 to 48. It was the third win of the season over the "Blue Streaks" and the second within four days. The first half of the ball game resembled anything but basketball. The Warriors were tight, standing around waiting for something to happen. Both teams committed every known, turnover that is in the book. Only the hot hand of Steve Himpelmann kept the Warriors in the game as they led at halftime 28 to 22. It was heard in the stands that during the first half, basketball hasn't been played like that since the days of the "pot bellied" stove in the middle of the floor. During the second half the Warriors got to hustling, and although Woodstock stayed fairly close during the third quarter, they could not over come the Warriors. In the fourth period Roger Wanta, Mark Bentz, and Roger Ludwig got the ball in the basket for the Warrior win. In defense of the Warrior play against Woodstock much can be said. It's tough to play a team three times in a season. Especially after having defeated them twice by large margins. Tournament jitters are common among teams. I have confidence that they will shrug off the jitters, get back on the track, and play in Rockford next week. Tonight at 7:30 they will play the winner of the Grant-Antioch game in the finals. So fans let's really pack the Antioch gym and back the Warriors. Remember they are representing all of us, the least we can do is to root them on to victory. It looked like a sure basket for Woodstock as 6*2" Ken Martine was all alone. But Warrior Mark Bentz gave the McHenry faas something to cheer about when he successfully came in to foil Ken's shot. Mark also scored 14 points in the McHenry 59-48 Regional win over the Woodstock Blue Streaks.
