Last Artifacts Moved To New Historical Museum Holiday Hills KAREN KOTTKE ' 385-6675 Show cases, clothing and artifacts await unpacking and sorting at the McHenry County Historical museum. The museum in Union has show cases donated by a Crystal Lake jeweler. Below them are cartons waiting to be unpacked. The last of the artifacts donated to the McHenry County Historical society have been moved into the new museum on Main street, Union. It took three van loads to move the shelving, counters and larger items that have been in dead storage and this necessitated hiring professional movers at quite an expense to the Society. They are still many farm implements stored in a member's barn. There has been a disap pointment in the number and size of contributions coming in for the restoration work. The Society will soon exhaust the money that has been borrowed from the banks and work on the upper floor will have to cease. The custodian's apartment on the first floor is being com pleted and then permission will be asked to open up the first floor to the public. If that is refused, the Society will need to wait until more money comes in. The many cases that have been donated must now be put in place and members are contributing their strength and time to this project. As soon as they are in place there will be a need for glass sides and shelves to be washed. Anyone wishing to volunteer time and labor of love should bring cleaning cloths and wear old clothes. Call 338-1985 and transportation will be provided. Along the entire east wall "shops" will be created-- tailor, shoemaker, a dental office, a jeweler's lathe, a bedroom with old rope bed stead and a modern brass bed, a farmer's exhibit of straw cutter, feed grinder, corn dryer, buzz saw, a printing press and other items. The many dresses, uniforms and children's clothes, will have to remain on racks until one of the upstairs rooms can be converted into a "costume" room. The music room has finally been painted. Now, square pianos, melodeon, victrolas, TV's and early radios must be polished and placed* in final position. The volunteer help of a cabinet craftsman is needed to make minor repairs on some the pieces. Transportation Will be provided. The old school desks from Landmark school, McHenry, will be put up in the school room along with related items, but of course they will not be seen by the public until money comes in to finish the upstairs. The Society will hold its annual meeting in the school and the members will be surrounded by unpacked cartons to the left of them, to the right and in front . Meetings have always been open to the public but due to the regulations set, by the fire marshal, this year's meeting will have to be restricted to paid up members. All dues for 1973-74 are due May 1. It is exciting to see the many wonderful historic items all gathered in one place. There will be a museum to be proud of if only the citizenry will support Legal Notice NOTICE Public Notice is hereby given that on February 16th, A.D. 1973, a certificate was filed in the Office of the County Clerk of McHenry County, Illinois, setting forth the names and post-office addresses of all of the persons owning conducting and transacting tne business known as WEATHERVANE SHOP, located at 1313 North Riverside Drive, McHenry, Illinois 60050. Residents Bowl In Mixed League At Crystal Lake A few of our residents are bowling in the Friday night mixed league in Crystal Lake. In first place this week is the team of Bob and Bonnie Kellen and Jack and Marge Connell. Other couples from the area bowling in the league are Ron and Joan Cornwell and their teammates Len and Mary Durkin. Larry and Sharon Kottke are teamed with Jim and Debbie Rupnick. Congratulations on your first place standing, Bob, Bonnie, Jack and Marge. Keep up the good work. ALL STAR BASKETBALL GAME Two of our area girls are playing in the all star basketball game tonight. Debbie Mahon of Birch street and Eileen Connell of Oak street will display their athletic abilities at the game. It's quite an honor for these two youngsters as only a few can qualify. The game is at the West campus, lower gym, and it starts at 6:15 p.m. Good luck girls. WRESTLING CLINIC Word has come to me that several of our boys attended the J.C. Grade School Wrestling Clinic the past few weeks. The boys met twice a week for two weeks in preparation for a wrestling meet. Some of the boys attending the clinic were Tommy Lundelius, Dennis Wilson, Kurt Roth, and Ricky Connell. I will have more news concerning the meet next week as there were several other boys from this area at the wrestling clinic. VISIT TO OLD FRIENDS With spring in the air, what better way to take advantage of the weather than a trip to an old friend's house. James and Wilma Galbreath were residents of Holiday Hills for many years until they sold their house and moved to Sandwich, 111. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Beth drove to Sandwich to see the Galbreaths and Marge Connell, her daughter, Maureen, and Earline Mettelka accompanied them. The group left the sub division around nine in the morning and spent a pleasant day visiting. Mr. and Mrs. Beth left Earline and Marge at the Galbreaths and traveled on to Dwight to see Mrs. Beth's sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. A. Marquardt. The Beths returned for Marge and Earline later in the afternoon for the sixty mile trip home. koADS It has come to my attention that a few people had taken a comment that I made on the roads as final word on their completion. Bobby Wilson is home on leave after graduating from boot camp at Parris Island, S.C., ON Feb. 26. His parents and sister planned a surprise coming home party for him. It was a double occasion as it was Debbie's sweet sixteen bir thday. There were twenty- seven guests invited for a great party..Bobby was thoroughly surprised and very glad to be home even for a short time. ICE CAPADES TRIP Ron and Joan Cornwell, their family and several friends (nine people) all piled into the Corn wells' bus and headed for Chicago to see the Ice Capades last Saturday. The kids par ticularly enjoyed the Lidsville cartoon characters and the skating to all the latest musical hits. After the show, all nine passengers headed for a special restaurant for a bite to eat. The kids got their second treat of the day watching the dragon blowing up balloons for them.
