The workshop will bring together at the farm, key resource people and interested teachers, students and ad ministrators from all over northern Illinois for the l-FRIDAY, MARCH 30, 1973 weekend beginning Friday evening, March 30. Pleasant Valley farm, the 480-acre camp and educational facility of the Community Renewal society, near Woodstock, has, under the leadership of Jim Mason, director, pioneered in the field of outdoor education. This weekend workshop is entitled "The New Exploration, The Regional Concept in En vironmental Education." The purpose of the workshop is for participants to develop conceptual perspectives in a i THINK ABOUT IT! 1 By BOB JUSTEN An atheist says there is no God because he has no God in his heart. He does not recognize God's pre sence because he has no sense of His presence. He responds to anti-God propaganda but refuses to listen to those who try to change his opinion. Simply put there are believers and non-believers. Only one can be right. The other must be mistaken. Both face an unpredictable future but both know there will be a natural course in life's termination. When this happens--for the sake of illustration--lets suppose the atheist is right. Lets suppose there is no God; lets suppose there will be no eventual confrontation with God. In that case, what has either the believer or the non-believer lost? The answer is obvious. Nothing. On the other hand, lets suppose there is a God; lets sup pose the believer and the non-believer both face an eventual confrontation with Him. In that case, what does the believer stand to gain, the non-believer stand to lose? Without presupposing the magnitude of God's mercy, or how He will exercise it, doesn't it seem logical the believer will lose less and gain more than the non-believer? Does this make sense? We think it does GEORGE R. JUSTEN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 3519 W. Elm St., McHenry, 111. County Junior Defenders Seek New Members Last year the McHenry County Junior Defenders planted seven thousand seedlings in Crystal Lake. The Junior Defenders raised the money from a rummage sale. This year members are planning to do the same thing but on a smaller scale. Mature pin oaks and sugar maple trees are being considered and will be planted at Veteran Acres. They will also continue to maintain the seedlings planted last year. The Junior Defenders are seeking membership from children ages 9 to 14 years of age who are interested in this work. A general meeting is planned for April 1 at 1 p.m. at the Seda home, 4213 Barreville road, Crystal Lake. All suggestions will be welcomed at the meeting. The week of April 9-15 is Earth Week. On April 7, the Defenders plan to clean Crystal Creek. For further information call Jim Gordon at 459-7619. HELPING PAWS The following are a few of the questions most often asked a Helping Paws' volunteer: WHAT IS HELPING PAWS? It is a legally incorporated, not-for-profit animal welfare association. WHERE IS HELPING PAWS LOCATED? Our activities are centered in the McHenry county area, but many of our members live in Kane, Lake and Cook counties. WHAT DOES HELPING PAWS DO? Our primary concern is providing for the stray animals in the McHenry county area. We are as yet unsheltered, so the strays must be boarded with local veterinarians or kept at the homes of some of our volunteer workers. WHAT ARE THE GOALS OF THE ORGANIZATION? While providing for the immediate care of the stray animals within our area, we Anyone interested in joining this organization should write to McHenry County Junior Defenders, Box 603, Crystal Lake, 111. 60014. also attempt to create, through education, a public awareness of the vital need to reduce the excess animal population through spaying and neutering of cats and dogs. WHAT KIND OF HELP DOES HELPING PAWS NEED? We are very much in need of volunteer workers in many areas - we need office help, drivers, foster homes for animals and workers^ on all types of fund raising events. WILL FINANCIAL CON TRIBUTIONS HELP? Yes! Financial contributions, both large and small, are desperately needed. Funds over and above those needed for day to day operation (food and supplies bills, phone and office equipment, cost of boarding animals and medical bills) go into a shelter fund. HOW CAN I CONTRIBUTE? Membership donations are one of the best ways to con tribute to Helping Paws! Being a member, in no way obligates you to serve as a volunteer worker in any area of Helping Paws - it merely tells us we have your support for the work we are doing and it entitles you to receive our newsletter. Donations may be sent to Helping Paws, P.O. Box 264, Algonquin, Illinois, 60102. A membership application may be obtained by calling our of fice, Monday through Friday, 10-12 and 1-3 (815-459-2641). If you do not receive an answer during these hours, our volunteer was unable to be there. Please call again!
