PAGE 22-PLAINDEALER-FRIDAY, MARCH 30, 1973 Candidates These men and one woman are seeking office in the township election April 3. FOR ASSESSOR Sebre "Sib" Whiting Sebre "Sib" Whiting seeks the office of assessor of McHenry township for the second time. A lifetime resident of the township, he resides at 812 N. Center street. Mr. Whiting served as a member of the McHenry Township Board of Auditors from 1933 to 1961. For seven years he was employed as part time deputy assessor for the township and has attended all state and county assessment schools since 1970. He has achieved a rating of C.I.A.O. The candidate is a member of the Holy Name society and St. Patrick's Cemetery board. Married to the former Dorothy Powers, they hav6 five daughters, all married. He believes a major problem is for greater consideration of Senior Citizens and the necessity to continue to strive for equality of assessments. He also points to some of the older subdivisions which have road and drainage problems. Mr. Whiting believes the first problem can be met through working to get a higher exemption for Senior Citizens than the present $1,500 through the Homestead Act; also to work toward moi^e uniformity in assessments at all levels of government. He says the Revenue Sharing program will relieve some of the problems in the older subdivisions. FOR CLERK Albert A. Adams Albert A. Adams of 1910 W. Bay road seeks the office of township clerk for the second time. He is a lifetime resident of the community. Self-employed, he has held the office of clerk for the past four years. He is a former member of the Johnsburg Fire department, Johnsburg Rescue department, Johnsburg school board, and belongs to the McHenry Moose and Knights of Columbus. Mr. Adams is married and has six children. He lists the population growth as the township's greatest problem, causing a need for better roads, correction of flooding problems and recreational facilities. The candidate believes budgeting and spending township tax money correctly to avoid the problems before they arise is the answer, "not waiting for state or federal government aid and dictatorship". FOR AUDITORS Thomas L. Birmingham A 15-year resident of the township, Thomas L. Birmingham seeks the post of auditor. He resides at 2208 W. Mill lane, McHenry. Mr. Birmingham is a salesman. He was twice a candidate for assistant supervisor. Civic affiliations include the American Legion, which he served as past commander. He is married and has four children. Mr. Birmingham considers a major concern to be older subdivisions which have a definite problem with drainage during the Spring when the water level is high, creating trouble with septic systems. His answer to the problem lies in the Revenue Sharing fund, through which he believes the town board will be able to meet existing needs.
