EARL WALSH So I Hear SPORTS EDITORj didn't have so many duties in helping get out Ye Olde Plaindealer twice a week. Thackery tells of an Irish woman begging alms from him, who, when she saw him put his hand in his pocket, cried out: "May the blessing of God follow you all your life!" But when he only pulled out his snuff box, immediately added: "and never overtake ye." Those super scouts, Bill DeVries and Joe Whalen, took off for the Cubs' training camp this week. Bill still wants to trade Ron Santo for Bill Melton. Huh! Trust you saw the MCHS sports schedule printed in your sports page or pages this week. That isn't the entire schedule, but Dick the foreman and Patty the*make-up girl sold us on the idea of printing the schedule up to May 1st. The rest will follow. They promise. There has been some ink spread about the State championship basketball team of Hirsch High not playing the Catholic league for the Chicago city championship. t As we think it over, we can't blame Hirsch. Wouldn't it be like the White Sox winning the World Series, then coming back to play the Cubs in a City Series? J * »
