TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of April 15, 1948) One of the few ties which still exist between the very earliest days in McHenry and the present time was severed last Saturday with the death of Patrick J. Cleary. Mr. Cleary, 94, passed away at St. Therese hospital, Waukegan, on April 19 following an illness of only two weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Henry J. Williams of Ringwood on April 11, celebrated their fifty-fifth wedding anniversary. The Williams' were married on April 11,1893 by Fr. Mehring at St. John the Baptist church in Johnsburg. Under the co-sponsorship of the Grand-Harlem Kiwanis club of Chicago and of the Kiwanis club of Marengo, the Wonder Lake area Kiwanis club was organized at a meeting April 12 in the Rolaine Grill. Arriving on the scene of the accident 100 feet east of the Dan Daniels Lake Shore club, an auto had left the road and turned over in the ditch during a blinding rain storm. In recent weeks army or­ dinance chemists have been seeking a new power source for rocket weapons in the little known fuel called hydrazine. A second cousin to household ammonia, hydrazine is described as a promising rocket fuel which provides a powerful exhaust thrust and is less dangerous to handle than other fuels. Only a few chemical companies in the country are equipped to manufacture it, including the Edwal Laboratories, Inc., at Ringwood which is manufac­ turing the product and also conducting research work. TENYEARS AGO (Taken/from the files of April 18, 1963r) Mr. ahd Mrs. Albert R. Ketel of Wondjpr Lake will celebrate their golden wedding an­ niversary at an open house on Sunday April 28. Michelle Guffey of Richmond suffered injuries in a fall and is confined to McHenry hospital. Largest of the grass fires this week out of control was on property in the rear of Valley View school west of the city. It was necessary to call for extra help as the flames spread over a wide area. Mrs. Lee Renwick and Mr. Edward Crick, both of Mc- Cullom Lake, were united in marriage at the Ringwood Methodist church April 13. The Rev. Bruce Breneman of­ ficiated at the double ring ceremony. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Steels of Grand Rapids, Mich., were recent visitors in the home of the latter's sister, Mrs. Leslie Olsen. They were accompanied by another sister, Miss Edna Speaker of Richmond. HONOR CANDYSTRIPERS - Honoring three Candystripers calls attention to upcoming classes for new Candystriper aspirants--an excellent way high school-age students can help with patient care at McHenry hospital. Auxiliary plans the classes, starting April 19. Application forms are available at the information desk in the hospital. BOY SCOUT FIELD TRIP I understand that Boy Scout Troop No. 162 spent the past weekend on a field trip to Springfield. The boys and their chaperones left on Friday, March 30, and returned Sun­ day, April 1. A few of the boys from the area to make the trip were Ricky Connell, Tim and Tom Hughes. The boys camped at New Salem, which is a reconstruction of a Lincoln community. Even though the group was plagued by rain the entire weekend, they saw many of Springfield's historical sites and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. HOME MASSES Last Friday, March 30, two home Masses were celebrated in area homes. Donald and Katie Gregg requested a Mass be performed at their home on Riverview Drive. The service was officiated by Father Cahill of St. Patrick's church in McHenry. The Greggs invited the William DeWitts, the Ron Wegeners, the Fred Postals, and Mrs. Brasser to join them for the service. After the Mass, Katie served dessert and coffee for the guests. On the same evening, the Catanzaros of Hyde Park street requested a Mass be celebrated in their home. The service was officiated by Father Edmond Petit of St. Patrick's church in McHenry. The home Masses are part of the Lenten services conducted by St. Patrick's. The Catanzaros invited Ed and Pat Hughes and three of their children, Denise, Eddie, and Kim Hughes accompanied them; Cathy Sciatta, Jimmie Justis and Mary Ann Mahon and her daughter, Julie. BIRTHDAYS AND ANNIVERSARIES Birthday wishes go out to Dale Lonergan, Nancy Foreman and Marcia Ledford on April 9; Tom Dougherty and Scott Wilson, April 11. The twelve members who took part in the skit were Patty Curelo, Diane Wood, Julie Sutton, Sue BeLow, Cindy Miller, Sara Eckman, Lisa Harmon, Janet Werner, Sandy Parfrey, Mary Irene Kagan, Dezia Gray and Carole Popelka. Leaders who helped with the program were Mrs. Caroline BeLow, Mrs. Jean Werner, Mrs. Linda Parfrey and Mrs. Beverly Schmitt. Mrs. Jean Kagan assisted with the art work. The club is in need of sewing machines. If there is anyone who would be willing to allow the club to use a machine or who could donate one, please call Mrs. Beverly Schmitt at 675-2060. During the meeting, Mr. Rudolph discussed how to care for rabbits. He brought two of his daughter's rabbits along for demonstration purposes. Club members are all busy working on their Fair projects because Fair time is just around the corner. Next scheduled meeting is Monday night, April 16. Schedules Of College Summer Session Available Schedules of classes to be offered in the McHenry County college summer session are now available. They will not be mailed to all residents of the county as they have been previously. Those who wish to receive a copy should contact the registration office at the college. There are over seventy different credit classes and twenty non-credit classes of­ fered during the summer session. Most of the classes, which are offered both days and in the evenings, are held at the Crystal Lake campus of the college. "Snow White" Is Offering Of Theatre Group The Harvard Players will present "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" at Washington school, 305 N. Hutchinson, Harvard, Friday, April 6, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, April 7, at 2 and 7 p.m.; Sunday, April 8, at 2 p.m. and Saturday, April 14, at 2 and 7 p.m. Refreshments of pop, potato chips, candy, etc., will be available before and after the play and also during the in­ termission.
