V PAGE 17-PLAINDEALEK-FRIDAY, APRIL 13, 1973 .. Students To White House Press Briefing Three eighth grade jour nalism students at Johnsburg Junior high school have been invited to attend a White House press briefing April 15 in Washington, D.C. Keith Besserud, first semester editor of the John sburg Journal, Richard Talbot, second semester editor, and Jim Perrewe, feature editor, will attend a regular briefing for newsmen in the press lobby of the White House. Their press credentials were obtained through the journalism department at the Johnsburg school. The boys will be in Washington April 15 to 18 on a tour with twenty-two of their Johnsburg classmates. The tour was arranged by John Senkerik. Junior high social studies teacher, who will ac company the boys on their White House visit. The press area of the White House is located in the West wing, just a few steps from President Nixon's oval office. Press Secretary Ronald Ziegler, or another White House spokesman,* briefs the press twice daily (at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.). The briefings are designed to issue important Not often do young people receive a White House invitation. And so it wa) with elation that three Johnsburg students learned they had been accorded this honor. It will be a White House press briefing April 5 in Washington D.C. for these editors of the Johnsburg Journal, student newspaper at Johnsburg Junior high. A stenographer records every word of the press briefing. Although the tran scripts never leave the White House, for many of the com ments are "off the record", they do serve as a handy reference Tor absent reporters. Occasionally, President Nixon personally appears at press briefings to make an nouncements and answer questions. The President can also hear the proceedings of a briefing by means of a special intercom in his office. Following the press briefing, the boys will interview a White House official and be given a tour of the press facilities.
