Garden Cl&b Views Display Mrs. Richard Tade of the Crystal Lake Garden club gave an informative talk concerning projects and plans of that group when she appeared at the recent meeting of the McHenry Garden club. Mrs. Elmer Stange, 504 N. Mineral Springs road, hosted the meeting. Mrs. Tade also brought a number of items for display that her club had made. The local club made final plans for planting a sunburst locust on Kane avenue, in front of McHenry Junior high school, on Arbor day. D PAUL) Helen Wright Will Conclude Fine Art Series The program by Helen Wright, Woodstock resident well known to Holiday Hospitality Day visitors for her original miniatures, at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 19, is the final event in the Creative Living Series, sponsored by the Woodstock Fine Arts association. All series programs are in the Woodstock Opera House. "Majolica" is the Utl^pf tlys, program scheduled fdr all those interested in the collection of antiques and American folk art. Mrs. Wright will display and discuss her extensive collection of American Majolica glazed earthernware, molded in naturalistic shapes. Her collection includes dinnerware, serving pieces, and one-of-a- kind designs, all hand painted during the 19th century. Admission to the program is by series or single ticket. Coffee will be served in the Green room by WFAA board members beginning at 9 a.m. Easter Seal Auxiliary Hosts Annual Luncheon The Easter Seal auxiliary of McHenry county will hold its annual spring luncheon and style show at the Crystal Lake Country club Wednesday, May 2 , at noon. Cocktails will be served at 11 o'clock and buffet luncheon at noon. The highlight of the program will be auxiliary members modeling the latest fashions. Co-chairmen for this event are Mrs. Gerald Donahue and Mrs. Joseph Conerty, Jr. Tickets may be purchased from them or any auxiliary member. There are 150 members at this time. Auxiliary projects such as the luncheon and fashion show have supplied funds for equipment for the Easter Seal Therapy center and for remodeling and ground beautification. The Rotary club of Woodstock just finished a very successful tag day for the Easter Seal in Woodstock. Tag days in other towns will be held this weekend. Hold Program On Nurses Role In Care Of Patients Registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and nurse's aides of McHenry county will attend a one-day program on the nurse's role in care of the stroke patient at Memorial hospital in Woodstock, Wed­ nesday and Thursday, April 25 and 26. The meeting is sponsored by the McHenry County Heart association in cooperation with Memorial hospital, the McHenry County Department of Health and the Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation of Peoria. The same program will be presented to different aduiences on the two days. "Problems'of the Strolce Patient" will be the subject of Miss Maryann Fischer, R.N., Coordinator of _ the Rehabilitation Nursing course of the Institute of.Physical Medicine and rehabilitation. There will be a demonstration in restorative nursing techniques. Serving on the local planning committee are Robert P. F o r e s m a n , M . D . , president, McHenry County Heart association, and Mrs. Vernon Hanson, R.N., McHenry County Department of Health, and Miss Virginia T. Williams, R.N., M.S. VFW Auxiliary- Plans Spring Card Party A Spring card party is planned for Wednesday evening, April 25, at the VFW post home at 7:30 p.m. The Ladies auxiliary to VFW Post 4600 is sponsoring this eVent which promies to be an en­ joyable evening for men and women. There will be refresh­ ments served throughout the evening. A "white elephant" table will contain handmade items, house plants, perennials and white elephants. Proceeds from the card party will go toward many of the community services provided by the auxiliary in the McHenry area. Chairman for this fund raising function is Gerry Kuck, who is being assisted by a committee consisting of Ila Hogan, Marge Moreth, Renee Jende and Barbara Bryniarski. Tickets will be available at the door. Her grandmother used it and she is 90 years old.Grandmothers laid down the carpeting and tacked it along one wall, then unrolled the carpeting, (usually over corn leaves or newspapers) and when the opposite wall was reached, used the stretcher, which has a ratchet on it, enabling a good tight stretch to the carpeting. The society is getting requests from national organizations asking it to ob­ serve the United States bi­ centennial in observance of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. There are one or two deeds • of transfer of property dating back to the 1700's but that is all regarding the revolutionary period. Of­ ficers will ask for the loan of any revolutionary items to make a special display at the time, 1976, and hopefully people will let the society borrow, temporarily, their keepsakes. Conservation Speaker For Garden Club The Whispering Oaks Garden club will meet next Tuesday, April 17, at 10 a.m. at the Community center. Speaker will be Robert Flick, who is the chairman of the McHenryCounty Soil and Water Conservation district. This is a very important sub­ ject to all. Fleck will review the conservation efforts being made for McHenry county. Rose Hanner is program chairman. McHenry Resident POET'S CORNER Involved In Play "Miracle Worker" This Friday and Saturday, April 13 and 14, the Townsquare Players, Inc. will present the play, "The Miracle Worker", in the Woodstock Opera House at 8:30 p.m. Active in the production are two McHenry residents, Elaine Bottari and Kitty Matz. Miss Matz, who is also a teacher at Crystal Lake high school, is the director of the play based on the lifo of Helen Keller. Previously she had directed the production "You Know I Can't Hear You When The Water's Running". Elaine Bottari has been active in theatre . and the Townsquare Players, Inc. for many years. In The Miracle Worker she is acting as stage manager. Tickets for this production can be obtained at the doof the night of the play. Mr. and Mrs. William Powers of Batavia spent Sunday with his mother, Mrs. Mabel Powers. Mrs. Mabel Knowles was a guest for a week in the home of her friend, Mrs. Maude Warrich, in Chicago. Mrs. Warrich returned with her and is now a guest in her home. The world has always had plenty of good advice: the shortage comes in good examples. Mrs. John R. Historical It is spring cleaning time and the McHenry County Historical society hopes it will be kept in mind when cleaning out attics, garages and basements. Old photographs, records, tools, toys, children's clothing, men's clothing, women's clothing and accessories. All clothing should be cleaned and marked as to age, donor's name and any other pertinent information. The society is now arranging display cases and shelving and it is in need of volunteers to wash and clean shelves and artifacts before putting in the vast collection, over 6,000 ar­ tifacts.
