It is of considerable annoyance to anyone going down Sunset Drive these days to have their cars pelted with snow or mud balls. The children responsible for this action are known, many of you have been recognized. It s for your protection as well as for the protection of the drivers of any cars that this warning is issued. It may seem funny to you to throw something at a moving vehicle and watch for the driver's reaction, but this could cause an accident. Parents, please instruct your children on ac­ cident. The automatic two-month extension should not be used prior to the filing of Form 2688 for a hardship extension. Q. How do I apply for addi­ tional extensions beyond this two-month period? A. Further extensions of the time to file are granted only under very unusual circum­ stances. If you need additional time to file, apply for the ex­ tension either in a letter or by filing Form 2688. Such exten­ sions are not granted as a mat­ ter of course, and the reasons for your request must be sub­ stantial. Q. Aren't there special filing extensions for U.S. citizens and military personnel abroad? A. Military personnel on duty outside the United States and Puerto Rico also are allowed an automatic two-month ex­ tension of time for filing. If you take advantage of this automatic extension, you must attach a statement to your return showing that you were ouside the United States and Puerto Rico on April 15 or other due date. Q. I'm filing a return for the first time this year and I want to designate $1 of my tax to the Presidential Election Cam­ paign Fund. Where can I get the form I should use for the $1 "check-off"? A. Call, write or visit any In­ ternal Revenue office to obtain a copy of Form 4875, "Presi­ dential Election Campaign Fund Statement." This form is automatically given to each taxpayer requesting a Form 1040 or Short Form 1040A and was included in the forms package sent to every taxpay­ er who filed last year. If you wish $1 ($2 if mar­ ried filing jointly) to be paid over to candidates of a specific party, check the first box on the Form 4875 and fill in the name of the political party. If you wish the money to be paid over to a nonpartisan general account for all eligible candi­ dates, check the second box. Be sure to sign and date the form and attach it to your income tax return. Q. Can I deduct my Medicare premiums? A. Yes. Premiums for medical health insurance, including supplementary medical insur­ ance for the aged under Medi­ care, are deductible if you itemize. One-half of your premiums up to $150 is deduc­ tible without limitation. The balance should be added to your other medical expenses. These are deductible only to the extent they exceed three percent of your income. Q. Are union dues deductible? A. Yes. Dues and initiation fees paid to obtain and main­ tain union membership are de­ ductible if you itemize. JILL AND JEFF SCHAEFER 1950 ROCK GROUP Approximately forty-five students at Montini Middle school participated in the second annual talent show held recently. Thirteen acts from grades four through eight participated in the show which was sponsored by the Student Council. Winners were first place, Dave Dalton playing drums; second place, a 1950 Rock Group with Lee Steinsdorfer, Jim McMahon, Dan Koleno and Brian Miller; third place, a tie between Jill and Jeff Schaefer, who danced to the Charleston, and Kerrie McClory, who did an imitation of Lily Tomlins' "Edith Ann". Cash prizes were awarded the winners Individual acts were presented bv Laurie Kunzer. Maureen McGale, Paula Hansen, Kelly Kennedy, Pat Althoff and Nancy Buck. Groups participating were the Talented Five, the Nancy and Liz show and the Choral club directed by Sister Andreella. A1 Kress, Student Council advisor, directed and M.C.'d the show. He was assisted by fellow teachers, Jeff Nellis and Mrs. Alice Bieschke, who did the makeup and tabulated winners' scores.
