Had a good visit with Steve Stahlman this week. He will coach the group and says he has the wing in shape. We told Steve how McHenry fans used to wait all week for those Sunday ball games. There wasn't so much com petition in those days. It is hard to finance a ball team these days and the boys need any support you can give them. Young fellows should be playing baseball. Let's en courage them. We will print the league schedule just as soon as it is available. COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY There will be a replay, bigger and better, of the Commerce and Industry Exposition that proved so popular last year. The place: Parkland Jr. High Gym. Will we be there. BASEBALL HISTORY - Nathan Lubke came in to see us and talk baseball. His memory goes way back. Might as well give you his answers to a couple of questions. You young sprouts wouldn't remember. How many games were played in the 1919 World Series? There were eight. Who pitched the opening game in the 1918 World Series9 Babe Ruth. Boston beat the Cubs in that series and the Babe won two games. MEN'S SOFTBALL --- The ever popular Men's Softball league is starting. The first game at the VFW diamond will be played May 8. Jerry Miller says so. After being rained out last Sunday, the McHenry Shamrocks will try to hold their first practice this Sunday at 1 o'clock. They will •practice at A.P. Freund field behind the Admiral. The Shamrocks would like to thank those who collected donations for the team. We all hope that everyone will pitch in to get the Shamrock baseball team off to a good start by donating any amount in the "cans" at your0* local businesses. Our opening game will be on Saturday, May 19, against the Chicago Union Printers. Come out and support your team.
