A id Returning Veterans MCC Holds'Operation Outreach" Schaffer Introduces Meat Tax Elimination McHenry County college has employed Halvor "Hal Larson as director of "Operation Outreach." The program is designed to help returning veterans find a satisfying and productive way of, life. The Outreach program is part of the Veteran's Affairs section of the overnor's office of Human esources. The college urrently has over 300 veterans enrolled in classes. Larson will be working with returning veterans and referring them to others for help. He will be in contact with social agencies in the county, the MCC administrators and counselors, and the Veteran's administration. He will give currently enrolled or potential students information about the G.I. Bill and other veteran's benefits. Larson served in the United States Air Force as a missile aircraft electrical technician at Fairchild Air Force base in Spokane, Wash. After his discharge in 1961, he came to Illinois where he became the owner-operator of a semi trailer truck. After a paralyzing spinal injury, Larson found himself without employment or job skills. It was at this time that he became a student at the college. He is currently a full time student majoring in business management. He and his wife, Lenore, and their two sons live in Cary. In talking with other veterans, he became interested in their common problems of employment, education and general adjustment to civilian life. In the "Outreach" program, he will be talking to and working with other veterans and trying to work out their common problems. Any veterans who have questions about the program, or about veterans benefits should call Larson at the college or at home (639-3281). Two-Day Bible Study Planned By Witnesses Final arrangements are now being made by Jehovah's Witnesses of the Woodstock congregation, 1320 Catalpa lane, Woodstock, for par ticipation in a special two-day Bible study program at their Chicago Assembly hall, 79th and Ashland, May 12 and 13. The highlight of the program will be a one-hour Bible discussion entitled "Decide Now for Divine Rulership", presented by Ruben Cobos, Jr., district supervisor of Jehovah's Witnesses overseeing four states. Cobos brings twenty- fours years of experience in the active ministry to all interested persons in the communities surrounding the eleven congregations of Jehovah's Witnesses who will meet, together at the assembly. Outlining one of the main points which will be scrip- turally discussed in the talk, Cobos remarked, "Divine standards affect one's personal morality and his family life. God's views and standards are found in the Holy Bible. The Bible has the best standards in the world and makes the best people in the world. If we reject these standards, we reject divine rulership." All in the community can expect Jehovah's Witnesses to be calling personally in their ministerial work, extending a special invitation to all in- Mllk Day Cattle Show Exhbltors Notified Of Rules Entry blanks and rules and regulations governing the showing of cattle in the Har vard Milk Day Cattle show have been sent to all previous exhibitors, 4-H and FFA chapters in and around McHenry county. Coleridge. The hand that rocks the cra dle Is the hand that rules the world. legal Notice A bill to eliminate the sales tax charged on the purchase of meats in Illinois has been in troduced in the state senate by Sen. Jack Schaffer, R-Cary. The legislation provides that the 5 cent tax be removed from the sale of all fresh meats sold at retail outlets in the state. "I have introduced this legislation in behalf of the many housewives who have expressed alarm at the shocking rise in the price of nearly all fresh meats," Sen. Schaffer said. He continued: "There are a number of proposals pending in the IN THE CIRCUIT COURT OF THE 19TH JUDICIAL CIRCUIT, McHENRY COUNTY, ILLINOIS PROBATE DIVISION ESTATE OF Mary Elizabeth Weber Deceased, FlLE NO. 73- P-129 Notice is hereby given pursuant to Section 194 of the Probate Act, of the death of the above named decedent and that letters TESTAMENTARY on Anril 30 1973 40 si°ck, Illinois, ana copies Yoan tcennebeck 1468 Wx hereof mailed or delivered to Channel Beach, ' McHenry. ^ Representative and to Illinois, whose attorney of marp^rft O'NFII record is Hamer,, Schuh & M^GARETO NEIL Herrmann, 101 Van Buren St., (Pub Mav9 l6 23 l973) Woodstock, Illinois. (rUD. May 9, 16, 23,1973) Claims may be filed within 6 months from the date of issuance of Letters of office and that any claim not filed within that period is barred as to the estate which is inventoried within that period. Claims against said estate should be filed in the Probate office of the Clerk of said Court, County Court House, Wood stock, Illinois, and copies general assembly to provide tax relief. To me, this one makes good sense because it attacks the present problem of runaway meat prices and provides a long-term tax break." Sen. Schaffer ex plained that "this legislation also is appealing to farmers because it effectively reduces the price housewives pay for meat by 5 per cent while in suring that the producer still gets a fair return on his in vestment. "Everybody is talking about holding the line on rising prices. The government should take the lead and would be doing so by passing this legislation."
