Sunday warned that U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East "will be hobbled" if the Alaskan oil pipeline is built. A trans-Canadian line to the Midwest, on the other hand, he said, would ease U.S. depen dency on Arab oil. and thus permit the U.S. to continue its strong alliance with Israel. In remarks prepared for a rally Sunday of the Rockford Jewish Community council marking the twenty-fifth an niversary of the Founding of Israel. Anderson said: "If the Alaskan oil route is chosen it will mean that the Holiday Hills KAREN KOTTKE Large Audience Is Expected For Junior Olypics GIRL SCOUT BANQUET The father-daughter banquet for Girl Scout Troop 478 was held recently at St. Patrick's church in McHenry. Along with their dads, the girls brought a dessert to the ham dinner provided by the church. Following the dinner, the winners of the Montini school talent show entertained the group. The Girl Scouts in at tendance were as follows: Barbara Grasser. Kelly Wegener, Angela Catanzaro. Marie and Patricia Pryor, Cindy and Doreen Rasbaugh. Diane Boettcher, Ann Stackhouse. Janice Emmons. „Chris Connell. Sharon Un derwood. Paula Carbone and Cathi Hoglund. Just a little reminder that the Junior Olympics at Hilltop school, sponsored by that school PTA, will be held at the school on May 12. The kids have been training for the events for weeks now and would ap- Midwest will rely on Middle East oil for at least 50 percent of its needs. If that occurs, our Middle East foreign policy. I believe, will be hobbled." On the other hand. Anderson noted, a Canadian route would "relieve our reliance on Middle East oil and would relieve the potential pressure on our foreign actions in behalf of Israel " Anderson, chairman of the House Republican conference, also warned that the U.S. must maintain pressure on the Soviet Union to permit Russian Jews to emigrate to Israel without having to pay exit taxes. "We must keep the pressure on and we must make certain . .. that they do not try to rein- stitute an exit visa tax later." Anderson declared Moscow will respond to such pressure. Anderson added, because of its desire for increased trade with the U.S. Anderson said a member of the Israeli Knesset (Parliament* told him recently that Jews have lost their jobs and homes just for applying for exit visas. 385-6675 preciate a large audience on the day of the meet. HELPING HANDS As the flooding Fox river begins to recede, many people are to be recognized for the time and effort which was unselfishly given to helping the flood victims of our area. Mr. Roberts provided sand for the sandbags, and Ken Chappel who supplied manpower and machines at all hours of the day and night. Without the aid of these two gentlemen, several homes would probably have been flooded Next, many of teenagers in the area filled sandbags and distributed them until 3 a m I understand that at least seven of these youths bought hip boots so that they could aid in the distribution, as much of Holiday drive was inundated. Of course, it would be impossible to mention all the folks who spent almost a week working at the sandbagging but the effort was appreciated and will not be soon forgotten. BOWLING NEWS Now that the winter bowling leagues have finished, here are a few of the standings. In the Thursday afternoon ladies league from the bowling lanes in Island Lake, the first place team was the Dukes. The Dukes, better known as Vi Abbink, Pat Senner. Mary Kuemmel and Mickey Walters, are anxiously awaiting the banquet on May 11. They will win their trophy and prize money at that tim< The Friday Evening Couples league didn't fare as well as the afternoon gals. Bob and Bonnie Kellen and Jack and Marge Connell were trying for first place, but were beaten by another team. So it's second place for the couples, and that's a great showing. Larry and Sharon Kottke and their teammates finished in the fourth place slot. The Corn- wells. Ron and Joan, finished a little further down the scale, but all agreed that bowling is an entertaining way to spend an evening. They are all looking forward to the banquet tonight at the Embers in Elgin.
