It comes t' mind that we've ne'er appointed an o'erseer, t' study th' sitiation, regardin' th' political offices an' what a reasonable fee, fer services rendered, should be. Seems t' me that the politicians ha' set the rates fer their own salaries, an' th' people take it fer granted, a hollerin' oc casionally, but doin' nothin' about it. When we appoint officials, we expect 'em t' use good judgment in all things per- tainin' t' th' job we, so generously, ha' bestowed upon them. It ne'er dawns on us t' look at th' job, same as any employer'd look at what kind o' results he's a gittin' from any employee. Th' laws 're made by men we appoint, but that don't mean we have t' accept ever'thin' they turn out, along wi' a settin' their own rate o' salaries. Ever'one seems out t' git ajs much as he can from th' public, an' that's one o' th' reasons we're a payin' sich high rates. It's too easy t' git away wi' th' tax payer's dollar. Still an' all, it jist might be a good thing t' elect a board, which'd be watched o'er, too, by the Supreme court, t' study th' subject, an' suggest corrections where they might be pertinent t' receivin' th' most fer our dollars. There's too much hanky-panky, among those who run our government, an' Congress's guilty same as other bodies. This state o' in flated economy needs some o'er-haulin', me thinks.
