Auxiliary Notes From V.F.W. By Gerry Kuck The Ladies auxiliary to VFW Host 4600 elected delegates to the Department convention .at the May meeting. Those elected as delegates were Helen Spoolstra, Marge Moreth, Mary Kuemmel, Vi Abbink and Gerry Kuck. Barbara Bryniarski, Lucille Garifi, Chris Amore, Edna Olson and Jatle Delke were elected as alternate delegates. Membership Chairman Marge Moreth reported that we had not quite reached our 100 percent in membership. Vi Schuble, National Home and Child Welfare chairman, reported that a total of $95 had been donated to the National home. This was divided bet­ ween the scholarship fund, health and happiness and canned goods funds. Vi also reported through the penny march and banks $51.17 was donated to the child welfare funds. Downey Veterans Hospital Chairman Mary Kuemmel reported that Marty Spoolstra and Ila Hogan had ac­ companied her to the hospital on our regular monthly visit to entertain the veteran patients. She also thanked members for the donations of hard boiled eggs for Easter and for the paper back books which she had delivered to the hospital as a donation from our auxiliary. At this point during the meeting, President Ila Hogan requested that Florence Tussey, Dora Krocker, Mary Kuemmel and Marty Spoolstra be escorted to her station. Florence Tussey was awarded a 100-hour pin and certificate; Dora was presented a 1,000- hour pin and certificate. These hours represent time donated as a volunteer at Downey Veterans' hospital. Marty was recognized as the post member having donated the most hours for the hospital. An an­ nouncement was made that ; Alyce Kowal had received both - a bronze and silver pin for over ' 3,000 volunteer hours. Alyce " had received her pins at the - Downey Hospital Awards - program May 9. Legislative Chairman Jane ; Delke urged the members once - more to write to their Senators • and Congressmen on bills that are pending. This is the way ; these men representing the • people know the feelings of the . public. ; Vi Abbink reported that she - and Gerry Kuck had represented the auxiliary in the „Elgin Loyalty day parade, .having marched with the men's color team. The Devilaires Igirls drill team and Mary .Kuemmel had also marched. The Marine Festival queen contest report was given in- "forming the members that nine .high school girls had entered the contest and that the charm "course had begun on April 30. tlla Hogan is chairman for this event, with Helen Spoolstra acting as her co-chairman. • A report on the card party was given by Gerry Kuck, who •was chairman for this fund raising event. The proceeds were divided between cancer fund, rehabilitation, drug abuse and voice of democracy funds. An unanimous vote was given to make a donation to the McHenry County historical HEARING AIDS Rena Schaid 1407 N Green McHenry 385-0125 Sales - Service • Batt society, of which we are charter members; also a donation to the Girl Scout fund drive. Junior vice-commander of the post, Wall Kuck, asked for the auxiliary to donate an American flag to the Little League for its opening day. The flag was to be presented before the baseball game on Sunday. ' A request was made for volunteer workers for the post annual carnival which will take place from June 6 through June 10. President-Elect Helen Spoolstra announced appointed officers for the 1973-1974 year. Appointed to office were Renee Jende, secretary; Pat Bedford, patriotic instructor; Vi Abbink, historian; Chris Amore, Pearl Saunders, June Schmunk and Pat Coughlin, color team; Jane Delke, flag bearer; Nellie Hepburn, banner bearer and Elsie Ottison, musician.
